You might look at a good used upper end Rifle? ;)

Have heard many great things about Savages, but they sure are Uuuuugleeeeeey lol. I love Browning ABolts, but a lot of people don't. Averaged 3/4 with mine overall, light and reasonably priced. Hard to go wrong with a Remington and though a little pricey, Winchester is coming back again. Heard a lot of great things about Tikka rifles as well.

My best advice, go handle as many as you can and pick the one that feels the best to you.

Savage or some of the entry-level Remingtons.

Savage or Tikka.
I own 2 Tikkas and will buy more.
If you buy entry level Remington,(710,770...) assume it's worthless as soon as you leave the store.

thinkinman, my friend. we had a client with a model 710 in 06 kill a booner buck, one shot, at 230sumthin yards.. not my first choice, but the newer 710's are pretty decent rifles.

I'm sure you can get the job done with one, but functionality is not all I look for in a rifle.
You can name your price for a used one.
To each their own.
No insult intended, just helping poster make an informed decision. :dunno:

I'd take just about anything over a Remington 710.

+1

Personally, if funds were tight I'd look for a gently used Win M70 or Rem 700 before I would consider a Stevens 200 or Savage.

I would save a little longer and but a model 700 if you choose to go with remington. Have you checked on gunbroker.com. Always good deals on there if you look hard enough. Things have always went smoothly for my friends and i when we puchased on there.

alright i'm on the hunt for a 30.06 what brands would you recommend...I don't want top of the line and I don't want junk...something I can use for awhile for all around hunts...I don't have millions to spend...thanks
Whats your Budget for a rifle? Does that include scope, ring and bases?
Nothing like a Remington model 700xcr.

Go with a basic browning Abolt stalker, about $500. Thats what i am shooting and I can promise you that my next rifle will be a browning as well. Plus my wife really likes her browning micro chambered in 7mm-08!

for some reason, i really dont care for the browning rifle stock. dont care for the looks, the pitch or anything. they can be fine shooters, but far from an ideal rifle to me..

the new 770 isnt a bad rifle either....it is the new updated version of it, and is alot nicer......

But i have a Winchester M70 also and love it....would never get rid of it......
