Its amazing to me how arrogant and jealous people are when it comes to shed hunting. How fast a person will turn on another, how quick a person will claim an area and private property that doesnt belong to them. The posting of pictures that doesnt take a rocket scientist to figure out where they were taken and then brag about them. How about we draw more attention to it! The very people that bi*%$ about others and boast their arrogance are the very people that are going to ruin it for everyone!

There is this with every thing, from hunting to fishing to shed hunting. If its private property no one can claim a area. Unless the land owner allows them to. Public is public, there is nothing anyone can do to claim a area. First come first serve when it comes to shed hunting or hunting. And even them a lot of people don't care if you are there first. You better find them first or they will be in someone Else's hands.

What exactly are you talking about?? I like to post pics of my finds, but sometimes I forget the camera so the pics are from home. The ones I take in the field I make sure there is no background for all of the analizers out there!!

Welcome to the site.  What you've said is the sad truth.  Most of the information that anybody needs to learn where to find antlers, is in the archives of this and many other websites.  Not to point fingers at all, but all it takes is a couple minutes for one person to destroy what it's taken many others years to learn and master.

Have you found a public setting where you don't have to earn you stripes (or credibality), so to speak?  I think he is merely saying that people usually talk about their positive hunting, hiking, shooting, camping experiences to get to know everyone first.  Then the occassional negative rant is viewed with a grain of salt.  But proceed as you will.

In regards to your topic.  I think the arrogance and jealousy is part of all walks of life, sometimes more prevalent in certain activities or certain circles, but Shed Hunting has definitely seen an uptick in popularity over the last 5-10 years.  The popularity comes from all types as well, fanatics for hunting / scouting, those pursuing the thrill of finding the shed first, and those that use the sheds for business pursuits, such as: lighting, and art.  I think the increased demand on the past time has stressed the popular areas, and brought some less than savory people into the hobby, as does any hobby that increases in popularity.

Shed hunting was ruined years ago.  If you are just now realizing that then you probably just got into it.  The competition to find an antler is pretty intense these days.  There are a lot of guys out there who almost turn it into a full time job.

Just a hunch. I bet the someone that isn't liked is a member here and this has a lot to do with shed hunting in Chelan county.
