Arrow Choice for My Long Bow

What size arrows do you traditional guys or girls use... Long bow 65 pounds... 30 inch draw. I am thinking about alum. Just need some advice. Want to buy them this weekend, so i can get them fletched up for the next 3-D

Have you measured your actual weight at your draw? My long bows draw about 10% more at my draw. What do you want to toss for heads?

I have been shooting a longbow for about a year now, and when I got into shooting I found some bamboo arrows. I think the bamboo is awesome, because it is so much more durable than cedar or aluminum. Being a new shooter I was able to keep the arrows in good shape even though I constantly missed the target and hit other things. I will post a link for you, and you can get fully assembled arrows or bare shafts to make your own. I found also they are relativly cheapcompared to aluminum arrows.

I shoot 500 spine carbon's cut down to 29 1/2 with 125 gr field points for my 52#@28,  and my D/L is 29 1/2, so I am pulling just under 60#.  In aluminum I shot 2016's set up the same as above.  At 65# you are right on the edge of 500 or 400 spines, depending on tip weight.  Try Stu's spine calculator it will put you in the ball park for your bow.

most bows are messured at 28 inches, if your bow is 50 lbs at 28 you can expect to add 3 lbs for every inch over 28. unless its custom made.

When i Shot with Beztine he had a buddy that shot alum that had a wood grain pattern on it to complement his long bow... I think they werre eastons ?

I shoot lots of diffrent arrows in my trad bows. I like the arrow dynamic the best. They are a tapered carbon arrow, they hit hard! I also like goldtip traditional. But i shoot a tons of diffrent brands. But the AD'S and goldtip are my faves.

Typically pick up around 4 lbs or so per inch of draw over 28 inches so you are probably close to 70 lbs. I shoot 2018's out of my long bow and i am shooting 60 lbs at 28 inch draw. Shooting 125 grn magnus. 5 inch feathers and shot really well and had many pass throughs.

If you shoot aluminum I would think that 2119's  aluminum might be worth trying if you are shooting 125 grn broadhead. Or you could shoot wood or carbon.

Excellent suggestion. I used Stu's calculator to figure the best aluminium arrows for my recurve. The results were absolutely fantastic. I am now a big believer in Stu's calculator program - and the best part is that it's free.
