Bighorn Rifles
« on: January 20, 2011, 11:49:52 AM »
Thinking about putting in for a bighorn tag in 2011.  What calibers do you guys recommend?  I have a .30-06 and my buddy who might be applying also has a 7mm.  I would think the 30-06 is viable but what about the 7mm?  Good deer rifle but how about bighorn?  Thanks for the input.

Nail on the head! Its a pipe dream, for thousands of hunters every year. If you do get drawn with the .0001% chance you have. Both the 30-06 and the 7mm will both do fine. Any animal on this continent will and has fallen to the 30-06 and 7mm.

Yeah good luck.  I sound like s stinking broken record but I hve been putting in for sheep, moose and goat for 26 years and still haven't drawn.  I wouldn't get to excited about getting a tag just yet.  If you do, do it with a bow!  Any good deer rifle will knock one down.

I'd go buy a new rifle now just to be ready in case you draw that tag. You'll need a spare rifle.

Spare? in all the years I have been hunting I have never needed a spare rifle unles its an excuse to buy a new one  :chuckle: I plan on doing all the OIL tags with a bow if I ever draw sheep and goat

Cuz we are diehard bow hunters.  When I do finally draw a sheep, moose or goat (if I'm still able to walk by then) I'll take them with a bow.
