No first hand knowledge, but I've heard it's a zoo. . . The parking lot full of campers etc.  I know they stagger the access, like walkers allowed in at 6AM and the rest at noon, or something similar to that.  :dunno:

You'll have around 200 other shed hunters on dual sports, horseback as company

Shed hunting is really getting out of hand over here :twocents:

I fyou go, keep me in mind. I would be interested in joining you with my dual sport.

I have never been there shed hunting but it would be kinda cool to do it atleast once.

I was up there yesterday and see some nice bulls but the numbers I have see in the past. The count was only 650 head.

And with this snow melting, if we don't get more to keep them down, the shed hunting will be at higher elevations.

Ive went up there a couple different years. They open the gate for horses and hikers at 6 and to drive in at 7. Its rediculous so many people so few sheds. They sneek in the rattlesnake side and stash em  or take em out at night.

Every year it gets worse and worse up there. The first year I did the oak creek opener (2004) I found 7 sheds. Every year since then I find less and less sheds. That place gets hammered by the tresspassers before it opens up to the law abiding guys like myself. It really pisses me off.

Also on a side note, last year they opened the gates to foot traffic and vehicle traffic at the same time.

Ive went up there a couple different years. They open the gate for horses and hikers at 6 and to drive in at 7. Its ridiculous so many people so few sheds. They sneak in the rattlesnake side and stash em  or take em out at night.

Was up there last year.  The gates were opened at 6 am for everyone, no stagger starts.  And I heard that the feed station had cameras up getting pictures of those that snuck in early, and the pictures were turned over to enforcement.

Plus I didn't see a large amount of sheds coming out, due to it not being a hard winter.  The feed station didn't even have the high numbers that it normally does, being there was still feed up on top.

To me the interest is to have done it atleast once, for the experiance. I don't care if I come out with any thying, just to experiance it.

Kinda lke, every one shoud do Mineral like on the opener, and wait in line to hunt Vail at least once n your life. It will give you a new perspective on hunting and fishimg openers  :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle:

We were in there last year for the 6am all go. Rigs lined up, hikers lined up and the horses lined up. The gates opened and up on the upper switch back as the horses tried to cross infront of the rigs. There was utter confusion. We think they need to build an overpass or stop light before somebody gets killed and sues the county. :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle:

What I mean is it worth risking losing your hunting privledges and getting the boot from OaK Cr for ever.

I have herd of two people that got caught red handed poaching. One guy killed 5 deer in one year most on handcock property without a pass and bot people still have there hunting rights. They should prosicute people who poach animals the same way they do the horn poachers.

That's in Jackson Hole WY. Oak cr, Lots of people, not alot of horn. Some people are just attracted to... more people. :dunno:

Gasman, If you want a quality experiance there are plenty of other places in the state to find nice bone without the crowd. There are so many people down there, last year I was glassing for horn and saw someone taking a crap. That was not the experiance I was going for. But good luck to you all.
