Enlighten me about Lumenocks and why we can't use 'em
« on: May 26, 2008, 04:29:20 PM »
I started bowhunting again a few years ago after about a 15 sabatical.
I'm really confused as to why we can't use lighted nocks in this state.
I would think the state would be happy to have archers KNOWING where their arrows are flying, and perhaps even recovering a higher percentage of animals instead of having them go to waste.
Does anyone have a clue why there is a ban on electrical devices attached to bows or arrows?
MAYBE I could underdstand not wanting laser sights or something, but beyond that, it just doesn't make any sense to me.

I like the ban on electrical gadgets. Part of the game of hunting is finding your animal and making a decision on when to shoot and when not too. I believe that the idea of not having the archery community running around with electrical gadgets is a good place to draw the line in the sand. If a few animals get lost in process I think it is worth swallowing your instinct to over gadgetize or modernize your hunting equipment and learn from or otherwise just live with. Archery I believe is intended to be somewhat primitive or less modern and thus this rule makes sense to me.

They might feel that more folks would push the light limits with technology and it would even cause the loss of more game.  If you are shooting within the parameters of what hunting hours are set, there should be no need.  Go to white feathers if you thing there might be an issue.

I have to say I don't get this one :dunno:. As far as the muzzleloaders go I get the no scope no jacketed bullets etc. But the lighted nocks make no sense to me. They do not improve your chance at taking an animal and do not provide an advantage. THEY DO help you to recover lost arrows and help you see if you made a good or bad hit that may affect how you chose to pursue your animal. This regulation comes from the same archery PURISTS that complained and stomped their feet when the state wanted to allow crossbows for disabled hunters, I mean come on, how is that going to affect the general archery poplulation and harvest :dunno: It isn't because there really wern't many disabled hunters that would chose that method anyway. Just my  :twocents:  This state is way behind on several of the regulations that would actually make sense including expandable broadheads. I just don't get that one either   :bash:

OK I'm getting off my soapbox  :chuckle:

I think that you have to look at the larger picture. Why should they change the regulation in order to accomodate a gadget for a small corner case like this? If it was in effect what would be the next step? Is it worth all the effort to even make noise about? Are the people who believe in this purists or are you simply using that language due to the emotional factor of losing an animal and being inconvenienced?

I disagree 100% with the thought that this state is behind on hunting regulations with regards to archery and electronics. That is what this is really about here on this topic. We have actually permitted what is morally correct and what is generally deemed fair from my point of view. I would agree that if you wanted to use electronic devices or scopes on your bow and arrows that you should do so during the modern firearm season instead.

As I alluded to previously... It isn't about this one corner case as much as it is the larger picture here.

Don't even get me going on teh disabled thing.  There are so many guys with disabled permits that are perfectly capable of hunting.  They took advantage of the system to get access and to get the ability to shoot off their vehicles etc.  There are folks out there that truly are disabled, but the fact all it takes is a docotr to sign a note is BS.  I know enough physicians I could get a note signed for myself if I wanted. I think they finally made a good call on that one.  :jacked:   I'm definately not a purist either, though the more we trick out our primitive weapons, the more traditional I become probably.  It needs to end somewhere.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not for every gadget trinket that hits that market. I do very well without them, I don't own a range finder or a inline muzzleloaders with 209 primers (mine looks like it was used during the american revolution  :chuckle:) I watch the hunting shows like you guys and it makes me sick too watching the hunters take game with ML with scopes, 209 primers, etc, it just defeates the purpose of hunting with a primative weapon. I still don't get the nock thing though  :dunno: I hear ya on the disabled hunters thing getting out of hand  :bash: Its the same a$$holes that get the parking permits when they don't need them that really fire me up as well.

As far as disabled hunters go I feel fairly ignorant about this sort of topic. Therefore I believe that they would probably be ok shooting crossbows but I don't think that they should be able to use electronic devices or scopes on them.

My least favorite thing is when disabled hunters put five of there able bodied buddies in the truck so they don't have to hike behind the gates and then shuttle there deer and Elk all season.

I don't mean to imply that this type of behavior is common but I have seen it on several occasions :dunno:

As for the luminok there has to be a line somewhere mise well be there.
THE WASHINGTON DEPARTMENT OF FISH AND WILDLIFE SUCKS MORE THAN EVER..........
