Just a roof over chain link is the best. Put shade cloth up for protection from the sun and a dog-loo. My brother put his chainlink up and attached the panels to the side of his garage. He cut a dog door in the wall and built a 3'x6' enclosure inside the garage so the dog could stay cool in the summer and warmer in the winter. Also made feeding and watering easy because he could do it inside.

Use this to supplement concrete if you don't want the kennel so permanent. It runs about $2.00 SF. fill it with gravel instead of grass

Here ya go Fred.... ;)  We started with a 10' x 20' storage shed.  The plan was to have 6 stalls each with a seperate run outside - 2 dogs in each, so it can hold 12 dogs.  We wired, insulated and painted the inside of it.  Then added louvered hinged Deer Creek dog doors.

Put in a central water system out of 4" sewer pipe that could be filled from the outside.  Used "T's" for the dog waterers.

The outside filler, and also the drain plug.  To clean it, I just open the plug and take a hose inside and flush everything back outside.  The water system is working great, Ive used it for about 6 months now, easy to clean and only needs filling every few days. It holds about 17 gallons.  Boxed the outside by cutting off the end of a cooler and that slips over it all.  Been -20 and hasn't froze yet, but put a plug for heat tape there if I need it.

We put in top doors and front doors and boxed in the water tank.  We wanted the option of heating it, so we put wire on the front so heat could circulate.

For ease of feeding, I put feeder funnels in each stall made out of a 4" to 2" PVC reducer and about 2' of PVC and screwed bread pans to the water tank framing.

Put in a charging bench.

And some shelves.

There is a 10' x 20' run for each stall.  I have since laid 1/4" thick x 4" square concrete wire with about 4" of road gravel on top to keep them from digging.

I just use carpet squares for beds.  It stays pretty warm in there, but when it gets in the minuses, we kick on a small heater.  Got about $2500 in it, $1500 for the shed alone.  That is not counting the run panels either.
