Anyone Hunting Out of State this Spring?
« on: January 29, 2011, 12:05:58 AM »
As you can tell from some of my posts, I have been fortunate to make one out-of-state hunt for turkeys each spring for the last few years.  This year we are planning to head back to Kansas to hunt for Rios.

Anyone else have plans to hunt out of state this year?  Oregon, Idaho, Florida or ? to complete your Grand Slam or ?

Really wanted to go to Iowa and hunt with MD but we are headed for deer and antelope in Wyoming. One of these years i'll make it to hunt there.
You haven't told me that you were going to Kansas

Slayer, Sounds like you have a great trip planned to hunt WY for big game this Fall.

We just made plans last week to hunt in NW Kansas.  Will be flying into Denver and will be able to drive over to hunt the Rios.   Then on the way back we will be visiting family in CO.

Anyone else have any plans to extend your season or try a new area??   :dunno:

Matt, What are the details of your Texas Turkey Hunt?  It's on my wish list but the season is generally earlier than the mid May dates we were looking at this year.

If all goes according to plan with Shawn getting down to Texas for the SGM course. I am going to fly into Ohio and hunt with an old Army buddy there and hunt Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana. Should be fun going to video quite a bit..

Trying to convince my wife to let me hunt with her brother on his property back in northwest Indiana.  Lucky *censored* has 14-16 Easterns roosting on his 40 acre parcel.  Last year he shot a tom that had a head the size of a basketball...weighed in at 21.8 lbs!

End of April or beginning of May will be going to Kansas City.  Still debating on hunting KS or MO. The Non-Res KS tag is half the price of MO and have access to private property in both states.

My brother from MO is coming out for the Washington opener to hunt Merriams.  If we can tag out up North, will head down south in search of some Rios.

Sounds like some awesome hunts coming up this Spring!  Hopefully we will have a few pictures to share for our efforts.  It is always great to experience new hunting areas and meet new seekers of the monarch of the spring woods.   :twocents:

The Spring Turkey Season in California opens the last Saturday in March (26th this year)?  Has anyone got a jump on their season by hunting Rios in California?

Does anyone on HW.com have any contacts for hunting in California?

I have been driving around Florida the last couple of days.  I have been seeing turkeys everywhere.  I went to college here 20 years ago and don't remember seeing this many birds.  Kind of got me excited to hunt this year.

That's it, screw Harry Potter and Mickey.  Game on.                                     Let me run this by the wife though.

Yelp i went with a guy that bought a hunt at a turkey banquet. I was the caller/guide on the hunt. We killed one long beard and a Jake. It was a tough hunt. We hunted April 6th through the 10th on a big cattle ranch. We seen polts on the ground, not allot of gobbling. Would like to go back and hunt in March to get my grand slam.
