hunting in texas

has anyone ever hunted whitetail in northern texas? I was invited by a friend of the family's to go down and hunt some private land outside of lubbock. Just wondering if anyone else has been down there and what they thought about it. There's definitely some good bucks down there. Anyone have any advice? Is it worth driving down there for? Thanks

The deer are the size of poodles.

I have hunted Texas many times. I really enjoy it there. Most my hunting has been in the hill country or south texas. I actually put in for their state draw hunts every year. Have been drawn a few times and did ok hunting. If you have private land to hunt I would suggest going.
Good luck if you go, would like to hear a report on your trip.

I have no urge to hunt whitetails but the trip sounds fun.

I think it'd be a fun trip. Gas is the biggest cost. The out of state license down there isn't that much. So if I'm able to get the ,oney saved up then I think I'm gonna go.

he doesn't hunt deer! He said he's probly helped gutted more then any man that's never killed one. He's just never felt like shootin them. Haha. He's got land behind his house that we can hunt and 2 or 3 other properties we can hunt.

I go to south Texas every year and hunt on a friends ranch. It is an incredible hunt. Lots of nice bucks. Take some rattling antlers and you will have a great time.

I guided whitetail deer hunts in every part of Texas this year from september through december. North texas has whitetail that are very similar body size as our whitetail in washington. North texas was my favorite part of Texas to guide, Its pretty open country, not very thick and the doe to buck ratio is absolutely amazing. There is not as many deer there as there is in parts like south Texas, but the bucks in north Texas have unbelievable genetics! Definitely bring your rattling horns they are very aggressive and its not uncommon to rattle a buck in from a mile away. Not much of sitting under feeders up north its a spot and stalk game in most parts. Rut starts right around Thanksgiving
