Duck Mount.
« on: January 30, 2011, 03:06:39 PM »
I shot my first Wood Duck today and would like to have it mounted, but with two other items sitting wth charlie being done, I may be waiting a while before i can get it done. (gonna be a high taxi bill this year  :bash: )

Whats the best way to preserve the duck in freezer?
How long can Keep it in the freezer before it will be unfit to mount?
Any recomondation on waterfowl taxi here on the west side?  (Charlie, Michelle, Joe, :dunno: )

(I did clean it, and I have it drying now on the table.)

Thanks,

Pete

Make sure duck is cooled and dry, Tuck head under wing, place head first in panty hose, then place in a newspaper funnel, tape and wrap another layer of newspaper, place in garbage sack, roll air out, tape shut and put it in a safe spot in your deep freeze, make the freezer is not a frost free one, should be good up to two years.. I'm sure others have differant methods though.

try and keep them whole next time. let the taxi do it his/her way. sucks to waste, but everyone has a diff method. as far as freezing, i just tuck the head under a wing and place headfirst into garbage sack. get as much air out as possible and tie the baag off. should be fine for a year or two. jed

Do what singleshot12 said to do.  Make sure you do not bend any feathers.

I'd send that duck to WCTaxidermy.  He has several pictures of mounts in the Taxidermy Forum.  I think he has a picture of some Woodies he has done.

I will check out WCtaxi......

When I said "clean", I was refering to cleaning the body of blood, dirt and anyhing else that is not feathers.

The bird is whole and un cut.....

WCTtaxidermy does super high quality work. I would send it to him if you decide to get it done.

sry gasman, didnt mean any harm. anyhow, ive been looking at the WCTAXI website and i think that i will be heading up there in the next few weeks to drop some birds off. looks like he does incredible work and thats all he does is birds. i truely believe that ducks are some of the most beautiful birds out there( especially gaddys for me) and a trophy is a trophy to the owner. def get it mounted
