.270 Win. Pet Loads
«

I am going to be working up a load for my friends .270 win. I am going to be loading 140 Accubonds and am looking for a good starting point. I would like to use H4350 or IMR4350 because i have a lot of it, but i also have RE19, IMR4320, and a little bit of IMR4831. Anyone have some good 140 gr data? Any help would be appreciated.

Try the
Hogdgon Reloading Data Center
, they should be able to get you started
Most of my .270 loads are using 150gr, I forget, I can remember my magic recipe, but have had great success using IMR4831

Look in you nosler book and see what they say is the most accurate powder and then try those loadings that should get you some where to start. Most of the nosler bullets I have loaded this way have been pretty accurate but every gun is different

I shot 150 nosler partitions with IMR 4831 cant rememeber how many grains of powder, but i shoot now 55 grains of H 4831 with 150gr berger bullets. The bergers are fairly cheap for 100 of them and they get the job done

I did a lot of reading before buying a 270 for my son. The 130gn bullet, (pick one), has been proven just about the optimal weight for the 270win.

You guys got me thinking.... He primarily hunts deer with this rifle so why not 130s? A 130 accubond right around 3000 FPS ought to be hell on muleys and whitetails. From what ive read IMR4350 will get the job done. Thanks for your help.

I've loaded up Nosler partitions for my son's 270 at about that velocity. I'll look the load up tonight when I'm home. Wicked on a decent muley doe last season. He double lunged/ three ribbed her at 140yds. Through and through. She walked some ten yards, but she didn't know she was already pert near dead. She had expired by the time we hustled to her.

Well now.. Lookin at my notes and that box of ammo the boy hunted with, The most recent load (and the one to take his deer), that prints just about moa (still have little work to do in that department), was Speer 130gn BTSP running 2850fps pushed by 47.5gns of IMR4064. CCI200 primers and Federal once fired brass trimmed to 2.54" and neck sized only.

I've mostly used 150's in my 270 and with the Barnes bullets 140's. Any weight from 130 to 150 is fine and not enough difference to worry about. I've always used H4831 and had good results. Played around with H4350 and RL19 a little and couldn't beat the H4831 so I've just stuck with it. The Accubond is a good choice. If it doesn't work out try the Barnes tsx. With the Barnes I would start with a 130.

My next test loads for that same bullet will be with H4831.
