when mulies drop
« on: February 01, 2011, 09:49:15 AM »
I didn't think mule deer dropped till late febuary or march. But I'm seeing that some of you guys have already been finding drops. I know whitetail can start dropping in december but when do mulies start dropping?

I think less than half of the mulies have dropped.  I think the majority drop their antlers in Feb.  Some do earlier and some later.  What your seeing this year is that most of the snow has melted off of the winter range and guys have hit it hard so what has dropped is being picked up early.  On a normal year the ones that drop early would disappear into the fluffy snow and get more snow on top not to be found until the snow melts.

I went out this last week... the latest being today around Wenatchee/Entiat/Chelan and have found 18 antlers still firmly attached to 9 four point and better bucks. All depends on the individual buck.
I am not opposed to golf, for I suspect it keeps armies of the unworthy from discovering deer.

Hope we're not in the same area.. I found TWO 4s with their left sides still on... one all by his lonesome and the other with a REAL nice wide 3 with a crazy kicker on his left. :)

I like your signature hirshey. I gotta really get out and spot some muley herds to watch. I know where one group is hanging. 3 bucks in it one is a decent 3x4.

There is still alot packin but as soon as they drop they are getting picked up, some of these bucks are getting watched daily :) One thing to remember is that the snow level is way up there and some of these bucks are way up in elev. I found 2 brown sheds last week in a spot were i have never found a horn before because there is usually 3-5 feet of snow, not this year. The bone is scattered everywere and it gives everyone a chance to find em. But the bucks that are staying low have eyes on them all day!

hmmm.....posibly but I don't think so. The 4 has, or had his right side on and I havent seen any kickers. Maybe you should tell me where he is though....I mean, just to make sure we are not in the same spot.  ;)
