I have set a dead line as I am the procrastinator that got the word invented. I am buying a rifle and a handgun. In my bin of day to day shooters I have 223/243/300WM all bolts, 45acpKimber, (few 22's shotguns handguns etc,some collectors),( a few house guns pistols /shotguns of the social type stashed around the place) but we are talking day to day user guns here. OK I want a handgun that is easy, holds a bunch of boolits so no extra mags and crap, or maybe one, just a shooter 50 foot self defense, Glock 19 comes to mind, XD? something I can drop in my coat pocket, belt or?? and not care if it gets banged up.  Next a deer rifle, DEER, user group right now has a 243 and 300, need a tweener, 270, 270 sm, 7 mm08,?? nice bolt gun Winchester Feather weight? Sako? I have a few other Tikkas now, would like sumthin different. ??  thought about an AR geeeez I dunno. help guys, I am BUYING BOTH WITHIN 2 WEEKS, NO MORE PUTIZN AROUND. I promise.

I would get the rem 700 mountain rifle in either a 7mm 08 or 280. both great calibers but it s up to you.

Tc venture or Icon with weathershield finish in 7-08 both are MOA guns. Also heard good things about the Marlin xl or xc series.

The capacity for the hand gun bugs me. So you're looking at a 9mm or 40s&w since you already have a 45. I would have suggested an SP101 in 357mag.  But no oooh.. You've got to put semi-auto in the mix. XDM comes to mind, but you'll appreciate that single action trigger of the Kimber more in time.

270 WSM just because it sounds like you need a bit of "cool factor." Course you could also go with a 257 Weatherby. Both are fast and flat shooting. Maybe the 257 in a Weatherby Vanguard sub-MOA.

I have a couple Kimbers Jack, and sp101s, I want something easy to throw in the truck, holds a bunch of rounds. Not a serious go to war gun just sumthin simple and easy to pack around. a glock 19 with one extra mag is a bunch of rounds, I am If I say so a damn good shot, I have no doubt about defending myself with a 9mm, but I would rather lose a glock to a thief than one of my Kimbers. Or have a glock in PD impound until the case is closed than my Kimbers.

.270 or 06. new model 70s are really nice. they are based on the pre 64 design. if your tryin to get the best bang for your buck go with a weatherby vanguard/howa 1500. 99% the same rifles and both are really good throw and go kinda guns. imo wsm cartrages you wont notice a difference with other then the price of the gun and ammo unless you reload.

I don't hate Glocks but the grip angle and grip safety of the XD make it my choice.
For rifle, you don't need a tweener...buy an AR.

Check out the FNX 9 for a pistol, I like the XDs a lot but this was way more comfortable in my hand. Holds 17 and has given me no problems.

  I'd have to agree with the 30-06 bolt comment. I have more guns than I know what to do with but my trusty .06 is and always will be my "go-to" gun. It does everything I need it too and is enough rifle for anything I hunt.

XD for the carry gun.... 16 rds or so if you're shooting 9mm and 14 in 45 i believe

.308 for the 'deer' gun based solely of availability of a wide range of ammo choices at reasonable prices and the overall versatility of the cartridge should you decide to use it for 'not deer' some day. If you decide to go the AR route though you are going to have to select a caliber/platform and go from there. The 308 based calibers are only gonna work in an AR-10 whereas the 223 based calibers will only work in the AR-15. Price difference and choices available between the two platforms are generally a pretty wide gap. Olympic Arms makes the 'Gamestalker' series of AR-15's in the WSSM calibers but ammo isn't the cheapest for those.

My next bolt gun will be chambered in .257 Weatherby. I shoulda never got rid of the one I had but it was a good trade.

I like my Glock 22 in .40 cal...15 in the gun with 1 extra mag for if the SHTF.

 :)I went and looked today. there are a TON of XD options, some of them hold a ton of ammo. The Glocks hold alot but not that much. The XDs are very tall off the grip I am thinking the barrrel is very high above the wrist. Both seem to be very dependable, in that regard the Glock is reknown. To be honest I aint in love with either one. This gun is gonna live in my truck, my coat pocket, waist band, and get the crap beat out of it and no care. I was thinking 9mm maybe I oughta get a 45.
I am also considering a 357 or 44 mag revolver S&W only, if I do this I will still carry my "other" Kimber 45. just have to be nice to it.
I think I might need one of you guys to come with me and if I do not buy I'll let ya kick me in the butt. Here I am carting 100 dollar bills around looking to buy a gun and can't seem to do it. geeeez 25 years ago I'd said I was nuts!
I am starting to lean to the Winchester in 270WSM for the rifle, purty strong.

The XD(m) isn't bad if you do a trigger job on it AND replace the striker bringing your cost up by about $180, it's trigger won't compare to a 1911 but it will be very easy to use. Mine is a 9mm (19+1 capacity) and you are right on the money with the high bore in relation to the grip, felt recoil is stronger in my XD(m) than a P239 by quite a bit. Accuracy is quite good post trigger job and the gun seems to be tough as nails, the only failures it's had in several thousand rounds have been operator induced I would trust that gun for personal defense without hesitation. It is also extremely easy to maintain with it's quick take-down and very minimal needs for maintenance.

xdm 40 3.8 and a 7mm-08 or 270wsm would be my pick for a rifle. Sako if its in the budget, or tikka. If you want a little money left for a scope.

Love 'em or hate 'em, if you are going to use and abuse it; buy a Glock.  All others WILL fail.  Seen it happen too many times for it to be just an opinion.  The triggers suck, they feel cheap, and they are really ugly though!   

I have a 25 WSSM upper on an AR.  It's a good medium caliber, and if a second shot is needed, it's just a twitch of the finger away.  Almost zero recoil.  Haven't taken it deer hunting, (it's too ugly), but antelope hated it last season. 

I was going to suggest a Tikka in 270, but it looks like you have "too many" Tikka's already.  (I wasn't aware that there is such a thing as too many Tikka's).

i'd get a glock and a AR you can get all kinds of uppers for it and there fun to trick out. glocks are great reliable throw around guns. The glocks are ugly out of the box to start so no worry there.

CZ P07 in 9mm. feels a million times nicer in the hand then the glock. comes with a decocker or you can switch it out for a saftey. i just picked one up and i love it. not a single issue and it holds 16+1 unlike the glock in the same size that holds 15+1. they are under 500$ i really suggest you look into them look at the reviews i dont think you will be able to find a single bad one about it.

Looked at some XD's last night, some of those hold a ton of ammo!! Glocks and XDs side by side. Do you think the XD"M"s are worth it? I do not want a 40 it will be 9mm or 45. A Sako 85 is not out of the question $$ is not an issue, I will not own a weatherby rifle or cartridge.

There is a 9mm, .40 S&W and a .45ACP version of the XD(m), Springfield is even making compact XD(m)'s now too. The full size 9mm (I have one) does hold 19+1 using it's standard magazine, as for whether or not the XD(m) is worth it over the XD, I think that one is a matter of personal choice.
