Montana Antelope
« on: May 07, 2008, 09:44:55 PM »
Has anyone ever hunted Montana antelope in the 700 units or unit 620 for antelope?  If you have is there enough public land to hunt on?  And would a 14 -15 incher be something that A guy could get?  Any other info would be great.

Thanks

There isnt a whole lot of public land in the 700 units but you can always go the block management way.
The things that come to those who wait, may be the things left by those who got there first!

What huntnphool said....

If memory serves 620 is up near Malta.  That should be pretty good.  I shot a little one up there 15 years ago.

14" is realistic but you're gonna have to look at a lotta goats.  Lots of lil guys runnin around.  Some of the CMR areas have some bigger ones cuz access is limited to walk in etc.

Go out a few days before the start and glass as much as possible.  Find 2 or 3 if possible cuz they get pretty stirred up when the shootin starts.

I've killed 2 16" bucks and a few smaller ones in unit 705 on public land.  There's a fair amount of BLM land and Block Management land in that unit.  My application's going in today.  I have not hunted much for antelope there other than a few doe permits over the last 10 years or so though.  The 2 big boys I got were in '90 and '98.  I've been deer hunting mostly.  I know the herd declined quite a bit becuase of draught between about '99 and '05.  They were scarce as hell.  However, in '06 we seen a crapload of them.  Hence, my application going in once again.  We've already drawn the Deer A, so hoping for a combo hunt.
Look man, some times you just gotta roll the dice

620 is up by Malta I believe.  Lots of Block Management up that way.  Between my brother, myself and my father we've killed several over 15", one pushed the 16" mark pretty hard but didn't quite make it.  We hunted the Malta area.
I didn't say it was your fault, I said I was blaming you.
