Minox HG
« on: February 05, 2011, 09:50:37 AM »
I was pretty set on some Leupold HD's 10x42's but they have stopped making them I think.  In any case they are now $800.  So my backup plan was the Vortex Razors.  But I just saw on camera land they are selling the Minox HG 10x43 BR's for $499.  Does anybody have any experience with Minox?  Would somebody recommend the Minox over the first two I spoke of, or vice versa.  Thanks for any info or input.

Before I bought mine I sat on mountain above Ketchikan glassing for deer. My hunting partners had a Minox 10x34HG and a Swarovski 10X? I cant remember but it was about the same objective as the minox, I had my old pair of Leupold gold ring 10X42's. I swapped back and forth for the last couple of hours of day light. Both the swaro's and the Minox were better then my Leupolds, the Minox and Swaro's were real close in every respect.
When I got home from that trip I ordered a pair of Minox from Camera land.

I love the heck out of my bl br's.  I would imagine the HG's would be spectacular.

I did a write up on my BL BR's.

I'm looking at buying another pair of smaller packable minox for bach country stuff in the states. Even though my BL's weight considerably less than almost any other european binos of the same measurements it would still be cool to have something small than 8x56.

The focus/paralax range is built so well/broad that i dont have to keep changing the focus all the time kind of like a sport focus on other binos.

go for the minox, you wont be dissapointed.

my write up

Mine arrived today...I've got an idea that once you check them out you'll be ordering a pair.

I was set on a pair of Minox HG 8.5X43's until I picked up a pair of Nikon Premiers.
The Nikons were smaller (32MM) and had a wider FOV.
I suspect the Minox would be brighter at sunset.
Excellent glass, construction and really elegant styling.
Very nice.
Doug at CamerlandNY is where I'd buy them.

Thankyou gentleman for the great input.  I think these might be my next set of binos.

From what I understand, Minox and its staff used to be apart of Leica and engineered most of its glass. IF that is true, then Minox would be a no brainer.
