I have shot a few Llama pistols and was curious what you guys think of them. I have an opurtunity to buy a Llama 1911 that is in really nice shape for about $250. Wondering if there are any manufacturer specific issues that I should look out for. I dont typically like 1911's but this one just felt really nice in my hand. Thanks for the input. Oh yeah, its in .45acp.

People who like Llama pistols seem to love them and people who don't like them are always hatin' on 'em. As long as it is in good condition and you like it go for it.

Get what you pay for. Not a bad gun for the money. Kind like a Taurus. Not up to Kimber standards but you pay a lot more.

No safty issues that I am aware of.

If you don't like 1911's, then why buy a cheap one? The probability of you 'liking' a 1911 after owning a poor copy of one of the best designs from John Moses Browning is quite possibly very slim. As said, a Lama is not a Kimber. But it is not a Colt or ....even a Norinco.

I had a Lama .45 1911 imatation it was a piece o sheet. hang-ups and misfires, none of the parts for a true 1911 except a clip will work on it, not even a grip change cause the holes are a little different. I love 1911's have a springfield now would not sell it for nothing IMO.......

And that's what you run into with some of the lesser brand of 1911 clones. Manufactured to 'spec' without the quality control to keep them in spec. So those manufactures end up with some good ones out the door, and some 'not so good ones'.

An RIA or (Citadel/Legacy Sports) is not a Rock River Arms or Remington Rand. There are manufactures other than Colt/Springfield/Remington that make good 1911 clones. Llama isn't at the top of my list of choices though.

The more I think about it the less I think I will buy it. It is in really good shape, but if parts availability will be an issue, I dont need the headache. I dont know what the big difference was but I have held several 1911's of all different brands but this one just felt good. Aside from this Llama the only other one that I liked was a Kimber with a $1700 price tag.

That just aint happening right now.

Kimber Stainless II with 3 1/2 pound trigger, my custom fit bushing.

The only thing I have not done to my Norinco is put a matched barrel w/bushing in it. Some day w/I get the money.

The question comes up often, what standard 1911 parts can be used in a Llama or Firestorm pistol. The following is taken directly from the Bersa-Llama (Import Sports) web site. I do not vouch for the accuracy of the information provided.

The following after-market 1911 parts will work on the Llama Max I 45 L/F and C/F, Llama Max II IX-C and IX-D, MiniMax, MiniMax II and MiniMax Sub-Compact; FireStorm 45 Government, Compact and Mini Compact Models (older style Llama IX-A,B):

Barrel Bushing
Guide Rod Assembly
Springs (Recoil, Hammer and Sear)
Trigger
Hammer
Main Spring Housing
Barrel Link and Pin
Bushing Type Compensators
Hammer Strut
Sear and Sear Disconnect
Rear Sight (may require the removal of the firing pin safety - depends on the sight)
Red Dot Sight and Mount (may require ejector and ejector port modifications)

Which.. If a 'Trigger' needed to be fit by a gunsmith, then there's something wrong.

True enough although every used, surplus or bought in pieces (AR) gun I have or have had said the same except for private sales.

I think PA BEN meant "match" barrel.

My ex had a 1911 style in .380, very accurate, pop cans at 30+ yards.
