I was going to say when you get the new mount done to use that backboard as long as a shoulder mount will fit on it properly. Thats a cool buck!!

Tore the mount apart last night, whole skull and lower jaw was used, a combo of dried grass, plaster and maybe insulation was used as "stuffing", the skull was nailed to a 1"x4" which was the form.  Taxidermy in those days was sure barbaric!
I've hunted almost everyday of my life, the rest have been wasted.

Personally, I'd perioxide the skull and hang it inside for a while as a euro mount (taxi later).  That'd really make it look big!

i think that's cool as hell.....you've got a piece of history from over 65 years ago and it was kin to you...i've only got a few pics of my granddad on my mom's side from the late 60's when they were packed in on a hunt in the north cascades....he's actually holding a blue grouse he caught bare handed. as far as my graddad on my father's side the only thing i have to remember him is the purple heart we got in WWII along with the record of him getting shot in the shoulder.....he did bring home a Soviet 7.62X25 mm Tokarev stamped 1939 CCCP that i have in the safe along with the take home paperwork.....I don't have any blood offspring myself as I married into a "pre-made" family but plan on handing it down to my granddaughter (who's now 2 going on 13) when she's old enough...love reminiscing about the "good times"...thanks for sharing
