Thats cool High Country... I haven't taken a deer with my 44 yet, but plan to someday.

Jason, yeah, its funny that so many people wouldn't have a clue that a 3030 whoops on a 44.... but the guy that said, "no handgun is going to stop a griz" doesn't have a clue either. Many handguns have stopped MANY griz. Griz is just an animal...flesh and blood. His skull isn't very thick and if you put something into his brain, he goes down like a sack of potatoes just like a lil blackbear... fact is, here in Montan the griz aren't any bigger than a big black bear. I've killed several truck loads of black bears with head shots and am very confident with that shot at close range.... I just hope, when/if the time comes, I'll have time to get the gun up and pointed in the right direction...

And my biggest hope is that the time DOESN"T come!!! I can do without that excitement...

(had a buddy kill one 2 springs ago, but he was black bear hunting at the time and killed it charging with his 7mm.... much preferred over a 44 OR 3030!)

I can say my 44 will pass through a deer at about 80k paces.....here is proof

80,000 paces? Really?

That's a hell of a long shot w/handgun.

im very impressed with the 454. it will spit out a big ass bullet really fast. i want to say i heard someone say "the 454 is 1.5x as powerfull as a 44mag" i havent tested it or researched it but i wouldent doubt it one bit. loaded with a good bullet i would think a guy could kill near anything wit it.

My Hiking in Bear country gun:

the 10MM auto can get pretty close to 41 rem mag performance (velocity and energy) in a lighter package than alot of revolvers (28 oz empty) plus its 15+1
I load 200 gr FMJ's with 14gr's of AA#9 which gives me a muzzle velocity of around 1200 fps for my "bear deterrent" loads.

Mine too  :)

Although I would not consider it adequate for Alaska bear duty.  ~But for local four and two legged varieties, tough to beat the G-20 for 'firepower' and weight!

There is a bear guide over on the fire that had an OMG moment a few years back, he had a delta cup for backup. He stacked a brownie with it. It seems their co is not as tough as a flying bullet.

The last two years I have packed a Ruger Super Blackhawk in .44 Mag with 4 5/8 inch barrel and 44 oz.  It is a little heavy, so I will also be looking for a lighter hand cannon.  But it sure gives you some confidence in the woods and at night in camp!
