Benelli Nova vs. Supernova
« on: February 08, 2011, 04:28:39 PM »
I have a friend that is looking at getting his first shotgun for duck hunting and wants a Benelli pump.  He and I are trying to figure out if it is worth spending the extra money for a supernova.  I have a Nova and love it.  He is not going to be changing stocks or anything and is 6' 7" and 250 pounds so I don't think recoil would be an issue.  What do you all think?

Well if I remember correctly the Super Nova has the recoil reducer in the stock and the Nova does not.  Also you get all that fancy rubber pieces on the stock.  Besides that they are the same.  The recoil reducer if I recall was a couple hundred bucks and that would be the difference in the price of Nova to Super Nova.  I had a Nova and LOVED it!  Also the price will vary depending on the finish you want.

just get the nova... then you will have a little extra $ left over to get a sling, a slug barrel, and ammo  :twocents: i love mine, its tough as nails... supernova has a recoil reducer in the stock... but its just like a cylinder of viscous oil or some fluid... other than that i dont think its THAT much different... if it kicks too much you can get the recoil dampener cylinder from benelli and turn your nova into an almost-supernova

catch it. kill it. cook it. eat it.
Forget the bear spray, use wasp killer. Concentrated delivery stream, 10X the product, and only $3.00 on sale.

I am 6'6" and 240 lbs, not recoil shy (shoot .300 RUM and .375 H&H mag), and got the Supernova. It has a better recoil pad which is nice when shooting 3 1/2" 2 1/4 ounce turkey loads that kick as hard as a .378 weatherby. The Supernova also has a better feel in my opinion because the frame is contoured differently. But whatever one feels best to you is the one! :twocents:

Recoil is always an issue even with big burly dudes.  It might not be a factor while hunting but after a good day of shooting you will feel the affects.  Repeated pounding takes a toll on the body and whatever you can do to lessen that is worth the $.

The Supernova with the Comfortech stock tames the recoil and is definitely worth the extra money unless you are just going to use the gun for something like turkey hunting where you just fire it a few times a season.

I have a Nova Youth Model in 20 GA and the youngsters and smaller women really enjoy shooting it.  It came with a fiber optic front sight and I have added a turkey choke.  It patterns well with Hevi shot in No. 6 Shot!

My buddy has a Nova and HATES it.  It is crap in my opinion compared to the super nova.
