6.8 SPC
« on: February 09, 2011, 09:04:44 PM »
I've been thinking about buying another AR and the 6.8 caught my eye. I like the fact thats it's legal for big game here. I noticed a few of you have the 6.8's how do you like them? I've been thinking about Bison Armory building me an upper. I've checking out the 68forum as well but I thought I'd see what some local guys thought.

The 68forum is probably your best place to go for info specifically for the 6.8.  As for where to go for an upper or complete rifle chambered in 6.8mm SPC, go with these guys:

Noveske
Wilson Combat
AR Performance (ARP)
Bison Armory

If you go to the 68forums regularly, you'll already know that those four use the latest specs to get the best performance out of the round.  ARP has put out quality rifles and uppers and does his own machining...but may be relative unknown with AR enthusiasts outside the 6.8mm SPC community.  The only problem with Bison Armory are the extra charges for shipping and state tax.  Noveske and Wilson Combat are pricey, but from what I've found, they are the best.  Let me say that again...THEY ARE THE BEST.  I got a Noveske Rogue Hunter in 6.8...unfortunately, I haven't gotten any range time yet...that will be this Friday.

I've had a 6.8 SPC AR for quite a while, and really like it.  Recoil is not much more than a 223, and accuracy is good.  If you get one, get the PRI mags. They work flawlessly.  Some of the other brands don't, I'm told.
If it was easy, everybody would be doing it.

I believe AR Performance is the best there is.

Their research and chamber / rifling design has made the 6.8 what is is today.

I'm picking up my new 6.8 tomorrow.  I'll post a pic.

My 6.8mm Noveske Rogue Hunter was smokin' yesterday.  I was finally able to get her to the range and I was impressed.  As I mentioned previously, the places to go for a 6.8mm SPC is:  Noveske, Wilson Combat, ARP, or Bison Armory.  You won't be disappointed either way you go.  They all use the latest specs...in fact, Harrison at ARP has even expanded on the specs to get the best performance possible out of the 6.8.

Here is an old picture of my two 6.8s, the top one I have painted since-

I can't hardly wait to get my hunting license & get out with them here!
The top rifle, I had the upper built thru Bison Armory & the bottom one I bought the upper directly from Noveske. Both rifles shoot sub 1" @ 100 with factory ammo from SSA & $50 trigger jobs from Bill Springfield, the Noveske just cost me $500 more.
I can't say enough about how easy it was to work with Ben from Bison on getting me the EXACT parts I wanted, three of my parts were not even on his website. You almost can't go wrong with whatever you choose these days, almost  ;)
If you have any doubt about what the 6.8 can do to animals here are a few good links to start you off-

I'm not sure if they are making a 6.8 SPC barrel yet, but when they do I will buy mine from Black Hole Weaponry.  They are turning out some of the most accurate barrels out there right now for just about any caliber in an AR platform.  The best part is they are made in the middle of our state; Moses Lake.

There is a lot of info on their barrels on the Predator Masters website.  Check them out.
I'm going to get my next two WSSM calibers from them.
