ID rifle by SN# ?
« on: February 11, 2011, 12:45:43 AM »
Brought home a bunch of rifles, some real fixer-uppers.  The one I have a question about has NO markings aside from a Serial#  It has the same Bolt Release as the Model of 1917 I bought so I'm sure it's a Winchester too.  I've searched on Google till my eyes hurt, any links to look stuff up would be appreciated..

The 1917 were made by Remington, Winchester and Eddystone arsenal.  Also the Pattern 14 looks like a 1917 but is in 303 Brit.  Remington biult the model 30 on the 1917 action also.

After the first shot the rest are just noise.

Ah so the mystery rifle may be a Remington...the Sn is RT075xx

Thinking it may be a .270.  Wont chamber 30-06 and is a smaller than .30 bore.  My .22 is the only thing in the house smaller than .30

They made the Model 30 in 7mm as well.
The reason there are so many Ruger upgrades is because they're necessary.

It also came in 25 Rem but if the barrel is unmarked it could be a custom barrel. I once had an old Sav 99 that someone had fitted with a shortenned 03 Springfield barrel chamberred in 300 Sav with no markings.  Sounds like s chamber cast would be the thing to do.

I have a sporterized model 1917 built by eddystone.  If the one you have has a scope rail on it, the markings may be under it.  Thats were mine was.

Never had ?? about the 1917. Good Winchester Roll marks, SN, only missing the rear sight. Huge Bat Wing guards for the front LOL. Stock is great.  Pretty sure it's all original.

PM sent

I researched the .270 till my eyes hurt.  Turns out I have a Siamese-Royal Thai Mauser 98 Large Ring. Mated to an unnamed .270 barrel and a stock that needs real work. OK for a $26 buy...

Phish what is on the grip on the sporterized model?
