I am gonna be getting a remington sps in 257 weatherby mag. I was curious to see what some good loads for that gun would be. I'm interested in shooting the burger 115 but am definately open to suggestions. Thanks

Sorry I can't help you with that bullet weight.

I had a WTBY Rifle and I recently got one of the Remington's, but haven't shot it yet. I had a load for a 75 gr HPBT in the WTBY rifle that is killer, 4000 fps and groups good. I am going to try working up to the same load with some of the Hornady 75 gr V-Max and see how it chronies and groups in the Remington after things warm up a bit.

If that load works out in the Remngton I will try to remember to pass it on to you. I load some 100's and some 120's too, if you need that info after I try them in the Remington. At this point I have no idea if the Remington rifle will handle the same loads as the WTBY rifle.

I played with a bunch of powders in my .257wby with the 115 gr Berger.
My load-Norma brass,CCI 250 primmer, 75gr of retumbo 115gr Molyed VLD Col-3.350" =3350fps and under MOA 5 shot groups.
I bought a rem 700CDL in .257wby just to play with, not to hunt with, light on recoil and will hang with my 7mag way out there so I gotta kill a deer with it this year. The Berger's shoot very well out of my rifle but I've never shot any critters with them so I switched to a bullet I have on game experience with and trust. A 110gr molyed Accubond over 73gr of IMR -7828 for 3550fps . I've sized a bunch of rem 7re mag brass to .257wby, loaded up some test loads but I haven't shot them yet. different brand of .257wby brass has different capacity, enough to change pressures significantly. Norma brass has more capacity then wetherby, and the necked down 7 mag brass less yet.
The higher speed of the 110grr accubond makes up for the BC diff.erence of the 115gr berger.

The 700 mag action is perfect for the .257wby. The 700 has a long mag well so you have lots of room to play with a long COL.
The .257 wby  is very impressive when coupled with a good bullet

A lot of "short range" hunters run the 100 grain TSX or TTSX in the 257 Weatherby.  You can reasonably expect to get around 3600 ft/sec with that bullet.  Out to 600 yards it's a deadly combination. Beyond that the Berger might have an edge.

I think the 257 is one of the best cartidges ever made. It was Roy Weatherby's favorite of all his cartridges for a reason, I think you will really love your gun. I have seen 8 bear (that I can think of), 2 moose, dozens of coyotes, and many deer and antelope taken with the 257. A friend shot his Alaskan Brownie and his Yukon Moose with one shot each out of his 257, it's the only big game rifle he owns. Not saying everyone should run out and do that, but he did. I don't kniow if he has gone to africa yet with it or not, but if he goes that is what he will take.

And we will definately have to kill some long range milk jugs We have now shot our RUM's out to 1250, no jugs that far yet though. Need a little more practice. Re 22 and the 100 gr tsx make a great team. I have killed deer, elk, and a lot of coyotes with it....all similar results.....one shot flops.
