First call

Well the season ended and now I am gearing up for next.  Two latest purchases were a Cabela's 4-1 wadding jacket and a new Benelli M2 12 ga. (was thinking of a SBE II but then I realized I didn't have a need for a 3.5", even then I'll probably just pick up a Super Nova for a back up/Goose gun).  Later going to pick up some decoys, been looking at the GHG Pro series Mallards.  But one area that I am completely out of my element in are the calls.  Can anyone suggest a good beginner call and learning materials?  I don't want to buy one of the expensive/higher end calls until I learn the basics. 

It's safe to say that I am hooked now, though my wallet isn't too happy about it.

Get a primos wench call.  They are orange and black.  That will be a good call to start with and work with over the summer.  They are about $19.00.  Then you might have an idea of what type of call you will want prior to the season.

Faulks, cheap, easy blowing and nice and raspy, I use mine way more than any of the more expensive calls I have.

so, if your "hooked" why not start out with something a little less basic? get yourself a daisy cutter and a zink xr-2, work hard and practice all summer.
then when duck season rolls around again you can impress all your friends with your ability to pull ducks down from the sky as if they were made of lead. 

truth be told a duck call, is a duck call, is a duck call. with a few exceptions they are all pretty much the same, especially if you are new. there are some that are harder to blow than others but realistically they aren't THAT much harder to learn with. I have blown on some very cheap "beginner friendly" calls that sounded horrible. once you have been at it for awhile then you will be able to justify spending $150 for that call with "that little extra something sound".

get a good solid call like one of the ones mentioned above (haydel DR-85 )
get a couple good DVD's that tell you not only how to call but how to read the ducks behavior.
and spend every second in the car on your way to work blowing that call.

wench dr-85 or even the buck gardner double nasty! i have all 3 my personal favrite is the buck gardner double nasty and all these calls are under $20 great begginer calls the one thing i would recomend is a double reed vs single reed for your first call it personally helped me starting out with a double reed but you could be different just my
