Idaho Elk tag Question
« on: February 13, 2011, 09:36:26 AM »
Alright, I can't seem to figure it out so I'm going to ask you guys for help. I am looking at the Idaho Pandle Zone (1-9) for Elk this coming year. So If I purchase this tag am I able to hunt the archeyr, any weapon, and muzzleloader seasons? or Would I have to specify which season/weapon I want to hunt in particular? I notice anyweapon is in october. November is muzzleloader, then Archery again in december. I'm just not sure. Any tips would be great! Thanks again guys!

You buy an A or B tag, each have different seasons and rules.

A tags have better Archery seasons

B tags have better Modern Firearms seasons

Achery hunters need a stamp you either must complete the Archery Safety Course or have proof of hunting Archery in another State. I don't believe the Muzzy season requires anything other than the fee.

Panhandle is a nice OTC tag there is a lot of Public land.

Good Hunting :)

Hunters safety in Washington covers the archery course requirement.

Here's how it will apply if you choose the A-Tag, this is considered the Archery Tag! You can take "Any Elk" from Sept. 6-19---If unsuccessful, you may hunt for "Bulls Only" from Sept. 20-30th.. If unsuccessful you may then hunt for "bulls only" in that entire zone from Oct. 25-29th with "Any Weapon" with the same A Tag---If unsuccessful, you may then hunt in Units 4-7-9 from Nov 20 to Dec. 1st for "bulls only" with a muzzleloader. If unsuccessful, you may then grab your bow & hunt Units 1-2-3-4a-5-& 6 for "any elk"--If hunting Units 4-7-9 it is open for "Bulls Only" this season for these Units are Dec.10-16th.

In other words you have many options & seasons to choose from with just the A Tag or Archery Tag as some refer to it!

Actually if you read the application, it says you must have held an archery tag in a previous season in Idaho or another state.  Or you have to have completed a approved bow hunter education course from another state.  our may not be approved, but if you have an archery tag your good.  Also the seasons are changing this year in Idaho and they are increasing the number of days you can hunt in some of the panhandle units and keeping them the same in others.  FYI

I spoke to the bioligist in the Panhandle unit and she did mention that they are trying to extend the hunting season this coming fall. So i'm assuming that is what they're working on. It will be great if they do.
