Anybody have an idea what it may cost to have a rifle Re-blued?

I had a BAR redone thru MGW and its was about 275 for a polish and re blue. It was perfect though when I got it back!

It's not an Enfield made by Winchester?  (a barrel that's been mated to a reciever for 90+ years can be quite difficult to remove and may end up in a cracked action in the process.)

You'll have to do some shopping as gunsmith prices do vary. The process varies also.

I would think the cost of blueing would be cost prohibitive.  My dad has sent a few guns to a guy in Idaho that does a good job for a decent rate with fast turn around.  If I remember right the price varies depending on whether the rifle is disassembled or not and prepped. I could get the contact info for you if you want it. 

My dad has since set up his on parkerizing operation and has done several of his own guns, all of the M1 Garands owned by the local gun club he belongs to, friend's guns, etc. and they turn our real nice and it is not too expensive.

Depends on what you want, if you want it like a factory Ruger or remington 2-400.00 if you want a NICE blue job it can go quite high, I know a guy that had a single action ruger done to a very high luster blue finish, very polished; $650.00 it is beautiful but geeeez! oh yeah he put on ivory grips too!!

Been doing some research. I believe it may be one of the 30-06 Enfields made by Winchester (with Springfield roll marks too?) that was given to the NRA to be Sportorized after WWI.  The only change was to remove the Bayonet lug, both upper barrel shrouds, the front lower one. The lower sling swivel is gone and I'm waiting for a new rear sight to come in.  Still has a 26in barrel.  Stock is 99-100%.   It really only needs a little touch up where the barrel shrouds rubbed it and ware marks on the bolt.  With all I bought at an Estate sale, and having already resold one SXS I spent about $26 for it....

They are tanks. There's a smith in Puyallup that will blueprint and rebuild the action and build a tack driver out of it. Timney makes a drop in trigger. The cam action of the bolt will squish a 300winmag into that 30-06 chamber.

Kinda like this one? (with the sight ears milled off.) Drill and tap it. Don't put irons on.

Just like 03-A3's, there were a lot of them sporterized after the wars.

Sight ears are still on.  Just won the Ebay bid for a rear sight, oughta be hear in a week.  Considering everything else from this sale looks like it spent 10 years in a pond this 1917 is remarkable.  I did determine the ugly mystery rifle I posted about in an earlier thread is a large ring Mauser, 3 lug bolt, with a Safety I haven't seen on one before, mated to an unnamed .270 barrel with a stock fit for firewood  but it might be fixable...

Mike, did you still have a bunch of beat up guns from the estate sale?  My dad loves restoring old guns so I thought I better ask for pictures of anything you have left to see if it is even remotely restorable.

I don't have a digital camera...sorry.  I do have a Savage Model 15 .22 that needs bluing, the bolt is very stiff, like the receiver is crimped?  It has the worlds most unsafe trigger design, one lever to move another under tension. It will fire if pulled, pushed forward or sideways. The wood has 2-3 little dings if you look hard and is very, very dark and for some reason it has a Winchester butt plate?

I also have a Winchester Model 250, a lever action, tube fed .22 S, L, LR.  It's a wreck. Wood is good, missing the rear sight. The receiver looks like someone power sanded the bluing 90% off.  It needs some repair to the link between bolt and lever cam. I got it working, but not enough to cycle consistently and no where near smooth...
