My First bow kill!!!
« on: February 14, 2011, 07:00:04 PM »
I havent had a chance to get the pictures on the computer yet but here is my first kill with a bow. Me and dad took a drive up to Capital Forest at about 11 on a sunday in december to see if we could see anything and we got about 15 minutes into the woods and there he was standing 5o yards away! I drew back and dad ranged him for me. I let it fly and whack! the shot was a little far back but i knew it was a good hit! There was little to no blood and I had to go home to Yelm, clean up and be in Centralia by 4 so i knew i needed to find him. I pushed him through the reprod and that was a mistake. I watched him hobble into a deep nasty drainage and knew it wasnt going to be easy to find. I decided since it was extremely cold out that i would let him be overnight. The next day I drove back to the spot where i saw him last with my grampa and my buddy.(dad had to work)  My buddy and I walked to where i had seen him last and walked into the brush. Grampa stayed at the truck just to make sure we got out ok. We walked through the brush for about a half hour then came back out. Then I said "ryan lets go look in this spot one more time" and we walked in and I saw his white belly laying there and i have never been so excited in my life! My first kill with my bow and to be able to share it with my best friend was great! We decided it would be much easier to drag him down to the road we could see at the bottom so we cleaned him and started dragging down the hill. It took us about an hour to get him to the road or what we thought was a road..... when we got there we realized that it was a big graveled quad trail. we tried to get grampa to show us where the trail would come out over the radios but no luck. I was responsible and knew it was about 2 now and i knew for sure i could get back to a road if we went straight up to where we came down. I really did not want to do this but i knew i didnt want to get lost down there. So me and my friend quartered up the deer and strapped some to his backpack and i took the hind quarters and put them in a game bag and slung it over my shoulder like santa claus. It was the hardest pack of my life. (Even though we made it 10 times harder by walked all the way down the hill then back up ) :chuckle: When we finally reached the top it was 530. We were dog tired but we had done it. all by ourselves. we were extremely smart about it and earned a ton of respect from my dad. He was so proud that I was responsible enough to decide to quarter him and pack him out. It was one of the greatest experiences of my life!!! Not a huge buck but perfect for my first bow kill!
