Fishtrap Turkey Hunting.
« on: February 15, 2011, 02:17:48 PM »
Question for everyone.  I usually go to Northport for my spring Turkey season but this year thanks to a family get together in Cheney, I am stuck hunting that area.  Has anyone hunted the BLM Fishtrap area or have any other suggestions for hunting near Cheney?  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Haven't hunted out there but I have spent some time at Bonney lake near there and heard some gobbles. Good luck.

I have been there a few times. I am sure there are birds around, but likely not many. At least on the public ground.

Thanks,

I've hunted for ducks and coyotes around fishtrap, but never seen any turkeys there. I'd probably look elsewhere.

In 5 years I've seen turkeys out there once. That was the first year. Pretty dismal.

I would call Fishtrap a nice place to desert hike not to hunt :twocents: For Turkey look farther North. :twocents: There are Turks in the Cheney area but you will probably need to acquire private land access.

Try NE of Spokane, Blanchard Hump area on the backside of Mt. Spokane. It's about an hour away from Cheney, closest spot with a good chance as far as I know.

I agree.  been out there alot and never seen turkeys.  Lots of other places close that are better.  NE washington is #1 in the state you know... call up thge wildlife biologist for the area and ask what they'd suggest closest to Cheney  my :twocents:
