We were pheasant hunting south of Yakima around Toppenish and seen one of the bigger whitetail bucks we've seen alive. It was a dandy buck. No question about what it was. Big ol flag flying high as he bounded off. This was 3 years ago. Only deer we seen the whole time we hunted there.

There are quite a bit of WT on the yakima, i just recently saw 5 of them on saturday between the gap and Toppenish, and one of them was a very big buck. Then today driving home saw 6 off I-82 between wapato exit and the gap with 2 very large bucks in that group. I have always seen deer constantly on the river in that area.

I have a couple of pics - see if I can find them.
I have several pics of dead ones from when I was younger, but they are not digital.
I suspect the freeway sightings are not whiteies but are the mulie/blacktail hybrids that are what is along all of the river cooriders.. At a glance a three pointer could look like a whitetail at 70 mph as these deer do have thinner horns and would fork a little like a whitetail. I have literally seen hundreds of these river and freeway deer and have never seen a true mulie.

I have shot plenty of whitetails over the years so I am pretty certain I know what they look like so here is my two cents......
Saw 3 whitetail does at the bottom of the Manastash grade a few years back standing along the first lake on the right and.....was goose hunting out by Mattawa about 10 years ago and watched a NICE whitetail buck walk out into the field we were hunting and feed for about 20 minutes right out in front of us at less than a hundred yards. Was blown away to see a whitetail buck out there,it was cool as hell....and for #3,have seen whitetail does multiple times in the Yakima Canyon on the Ellensburg end during the winter, right there hanging out in the brush along the river.
