Browning Rage
« on: February 21, 2011, 04:45:00 PM »
My old man recently traded for a Browning Rage compound bow with a 60-70 lb draw weight. He hasn't gotten the draw length shortened yet but I still don't think it will really help him draw it back because he really starts to struggle about the time he hits where the leftoff should be. My question is should he take the time to go get it shortened and all that before he gets rid of it or should he just try and trade it or sell it and get a 50-60 lb bow? I posted it in the classifieds for him and am gonna post pictures because he doesn't have the time right now.

How much do you have to shorten it to fit him?  Sounds like a 50-60 would be better for him but I don't know.

I would say probably 2 inches or so. It is about the right draw length for me and I am 6'1". He is 5'9" and has shorter arms too.

2 inches could make a difference.  I would take the bow and your dad to the local bow shop and get it all checked out and tuned up to fit him properly.

2" is a lot. Especially when you're trying to get it to cam over and you're all out of room. A qualified bow shop should be able to set it up correctly for you dad in a few minutes and make the poundage decision after that. 60/70 might seem like a lot in the middle of the winter when you're not shooting but by late summer after you've shot a lot getting ready for bow season and you're all enthused, it might be just right. I'd say that after the draw is set correctly and he can shoot 60lbs just fine, keep it cuz he'll probably be crankin it  up a tad after plenty of shootin.
