I'm really digging that X-Bolt Carbon Stalker.

I am also in the market for a new rifle, probably a .270, My biggest hang up is I don't want to pack a rifle around for the rest of my life with MADE IN JAPAN stamped on it. What are some good guns made in America? I would be willing to pay a little more for American made.

I would go and look at the rifles you are interested in, in person.  See what feels best  :twocents:

The A-bolt clip system is one of the fetures I like on that gun. It's not an issue to me to lock the clip to the floor plate and then lock the floor plate to the rifle. I doubt I will loose that clip in the field. Bunny Thumper, I hear you on buying American. It is always best to do so if you can, I just really like Browning firearms. No excuse from me on not buying American, I just did'ent.

Thanks for everyone's input,

Now I need to add the price variable to 3 of them (all in 270):

Winchester Model 70 Walnut stock, blued barrel -- $599
Tikka T3 Lite Stainless - composite stock -- $549
Browning x bolt composite stalker - composite stock, blued barrel -- $699

:)Everybody has an opinion, all I can say is I just went thru this, I own several "sensible' hunting rifles, well my new rifle I just wanted kind of a fling, I bought a Model 70 Winchester because; I like the safety, I like box magazines, I wanted a wood stock and blue metal, I love the history, FN America builds them, and a 270 is just a "winchester" cartridge to me. I went wsm because of Jack O'Conner, it is what he would choose today. He loved high velocity. I have been running different sight in formulas and the info is way cool. depending on what you plug in 2-2.5 high at 100 is like 3-4 low at 300, 11 low at 400. HOLY COW!!!!! I stress  this is computer info not range results. Barnes triple shock, 3200-3300 fps is called KICK BUTT and a .5 inch group at 100. :dunno: I am in love! I also love Harleys, Colts, 45acp, Chevys and other old guy stuff.

My next rifle will be an X-bolt. I have an a-bolt SS .270 winchester. 3-9x40 luepold vx-II, isn't exactly a tack driver but I've only shot one load through it and it is right around 1 inch every time. Ususally 2 shots touching, and 1 slightly higher, probably the ammo not the gun. But I dont have any need to change loads. They are 140 gr accubonds. 3 inches high at 100 yards is what I do for those long range montana hunts.

Here it is, shot this deer at 485 yards, 1 shot ran 75 yards, and he tumbled. MT by the way.

Myself and a hunting partner both ended up with Tikka T-3 Lites and life is much easier climbing in the back country.  Mine is in .30-06 and My partner's is in .270. Both are super accurate. No looking back and my Remingtons and Savage rifles stay in the safe!

I would echo the recommendations for the Weatherby Vanguard. For the price I don't think it can be beat for accuracy, balance, and durability.

Have owned A bolts, still own Tikka and TC Icon. All three are great guns but the one that impresses me the most for quality and accuracy is the Icon. They gaurantee MOA and this gun does it with every load I feed it.
