Hows the Grande Rhonde fishing?
« on: February 24, 2011, 09:00:09 AM »
Talking about heading over this weekend and I wanted to see if anybody has fished it this week and how it was fishing. Looks like it might get real cold over there and I wonder how that will affect the fish?

It might freeze up again. Call Bogans.

Guy I work with went this past weekend.  He said the water was high.  He didn't mention catching anything either.

I was down with my dad from Saturday to Wednesday..fishing was pretty good for this time of year ..we averaged 5-10 a piece a day with exceptions on some days..my dad had a 14 fish day and the following day I had 11. River is not high at all... average to below average water flow right now. I would check before heading this weekend...river could be iced up with the lows they have had.

You could make it, but it would be a long drive for not much fishing time!

Yeah, you can fish right at Lower Granite.  You can fish on either side- Offield Landing is a popular spot on the Garfield County side, or the Whitman County side is often fished from also.  Most use a shrimp under a bobber- try and keep it about 2 feet or so off the bottom.  Remember your Salmon and Steelhead Endorsement on your fishing license, and barbless hooks!  I haven't been there in a while, but I have seen some good success there.

Yep.  Some guys have been using a dark-colored jig with red or orange yarn to hold the shrimp.  The Grande Ronde is hotter though, so if you have more time it would be worth your while to make the trip.

Was thinking about going down tomorrow.  Any new reports or idea if the river is blown out yet?

I was at the lower river by the county bridge today and the water was pretty high and a little muddy.  I'm guessing Shumaker and Bogans are the same way, but I haven't been down there in a week or more.
