Turkey Question
« on: February 26, 2011, 05:44:07 PM »
Do you guys like the mechanical or fixed for Gobbler?  My son is going to try to get a bird this year with an arrow for youth opener.  It seems like given all of the variables that in the end if he gets a good shot off then it might not really matter what kind of arrow point is being used.  But hey, what do I know?   :dunno:

i have shot turkeys with just fixed heads but after researching other sights and posts im thinking a large 3 blade expandable or bullheads /guillotines would work better.  the shot has to be perfect with a fixed.

I'd like to try them but I can't find in the regs where you can use them. I'm looking at the April 2010 to March 2011 regs.

They dont allow mechanicals for big game. But it doesnt list it in the game book restrictions for small game so its legit. Was thinking bout picking myself up some rages if i do go turkey this year myself.

I just called Region 5 and Karen confirmed that mechanical broadheads are OK for turkey.

I have shot alot of turkeys in this state. Most of them with my bow. I can tell you that the large guillotine style broadheads are deadly i shot a tom (9 3/4)" in beard, with one and i only had a base of the wing shot so i took it and when i walked up too him it had completely cut the wing off. so yes they are a great broadhead for turkey whether it is a headshot or the base of the wing those broadheads work.
