Attack of the Killer Weasels
« on: February 27, 2011, 07:09:02 PM »
Got a cool Phone call from my "Little" brother today.. He had to go up into the woods the fix a heater so that a Pre-Modona Operator can load logs tomorrow. As hes driving up to the equipment hes sees a bunny and something fighting in the middle of the snow covered logging road. As he pulls up He sees something fly across the road then dives into the snow bank, only to pop up  and look at him. The Weasel gives him enough time to grab his camera for a few pics.. The rabbit comes back to life and the weasel runs to dispatch his dinner. So, my bro hops out of the truck to take a few more pics.... As you can tell from the 3 up close. Bro chases the weasel off to and vermin takes watch.. Bro walks back to the truck to grab a bit of wire and a screwdriver to stake the bunny down so he can bet some better pics... As he returns with the gear the weasel drags the bunny through the snow drift  and down the hill... He said it was pretty impressed with the ability of the Mr Weasel to "throw the rabbit down the hill.
Cool story just had to share... My bro has lots of cool pics from being out in the woods all the time.! I'm VERY envious.

In archery we have something like the way of the superior man. When the archer misses the center of the target, he turns round and seeks for the cause of his failure in himself.

Yeah not working for me either. I want to see em though, sounds cool! I think I have a weasle stealing eggs from my chicken coop. Whatever is stealing them is small and somehow taking the eggs outside the coop and eating them.

he has them saved as a png file.     Needs to go back in and change them to a jpeg file so all can see. PNG file is usually loaded with his camera program....

I got to witness one kill a rabbit about 9 or 10 yrs. ago up around curlew area. those little buggers are vicious, the rabbit was at least 3 times the size. We were within 8 feet of the thing and it was not letting go of that rabbit. My dad has pics of it somewhere but that was before digital.

the weasel is brown, thought it would be white this time of year.
If you shoot the first one you will never get that true trophy.

AHHH! The pictures do so much for this thread. Thanks for fixing and posting them. I had one of those little buggers get into my bird pens a few years back, lost $1400 worth of birds in about a half hour  :yike: :bdid:. Next day I waited for him to come back and as he attacked on of my hungarian partridges ..... :mgun: :mgun:. Have not had a problem since. Now I would shoot any of them I see in an effort to help out the small game of the area.

the weasel is brown, thought it would be white this time of year.

You're thinking of an Ermine.  They get white in the winter--Weasels don't.  The only Ermine I ever saw was last year on a February trip to shoot Ground Squirrels in Oregon.  No snow at all, and I was scanning the field with my scope, and saw something white swirling around in the lower part of the scope.  Thought it was the wind blowing a piece of paper.  Put the scope on it, and a head looked back at me with black eyes and nose.  Poor thing was trying to catch a ground squirrel without the benefit of camo, and wasn't having much luck.  Then my buddy shot the head off a squirrel 10 feet from him, and he ran over and grabbed the headless squirrel.  Last we saw him, he was heading across the field with the dead rat in his mouth.
If it was easy, everybody would be doing it.

I wouldn't advertise that.  Weasels are protected in WA.  Can't blame you for killing one that was in the act of depredation, but just shooting any you see could get you in deep do-do.
