« on: February 28, 2011, 05:47:30 PM »
Im wanting to buy a pair of ELs but havent been able to locate any of the non-swarovision 10x42s. I know they are the older version but someone has to have them in stock. Ive kicked an email over to Camerland but havent heard back yet. Ive also called 2 local wholesale sports and Cabelas, no go on both Anyone have any ideas as to where i might find a good deal on a pair? Thanks y'all  :)

Just a thought as I was JUST in the neighborhood for a pair of Swaro's.. 10x42.. But I bought the Steiner Peregrine XP.. I have to be honest.. they are JUST as good and Swaro's are my hands down favorite optics.. they are Steiners TOP line and cost a few hundred less.. 30 year warranty is pretty nice too.

I would encourage you to check them out if you get a chance to compare. I think I bought my last pair of binos... ever.

Check out bear basin outfitters. Ordered a set of 10x50 SLC's, and a Swarovski Laserguide about a month ago. Great service, great prices. The SLC's were 5 bills less than cabelas or midway, the laserguide same as cabelas.  I ended up with a free bino harness, free binoc case, and free express shipping. Good outfit. Later

Hey I know that it is a BOLD statement. And like I said before, I think Swaros are the best glass, period. I have never seen anything look more crisp, clear, 3D, etc. than swaros.. that is why I have one of their ATM 65 spotting scopes  :)

BUT...

The Steiner Peregrine XPs are the REAL deal. Steiner is not bargain basement optics to start off with and the Peregrines are their top of the line bino. HD, 44mm (bigger than traditional 42), Nano Covering (like Bushnells "rain guard"... SO helps withoutside fogging).

Check this out:

http://www.steiner-binoculars.com/assets/pdf/downloads/PeregrineXPBrochure.pdf

I looked through BOTH of them and they are just as bright, just as sharp and have all the bells and whistles but with about 30% of the price tag and a few more extras.. like neoprine cover for the front eye peice, quick lock system for straps, side eye covers and a pretty iron clad 30 year warranty.

I encourage you to take the pepsi challenge on these and tell me different. :)

I tend to wonder about the submission to Swarovski.  Anybody posting anything about something being their equal seems to feel the need to say something about how the other is not quite a Swarovski.  Mostly this is true and Swarovski makes terrific binoculars.

BUT in this case, the Steiner Peregrine XP is the full optical equal of the Swarovski EL and SLC.  Anybody who has compared the two will likely tell you that.  I personally would give the Peregrine XP the edge in build quality as well.  Steiner has tended to be their own worst enemy because they tend to produce a wide range of price levels (and therefore quality) in their binoculars.  So the bad tends to soil the good to a degree.

I never found a place that carried steiners, but I did find a paur of mint ELs at adventure outfitters in hillsboro. I have some friends who have the els and they are incredible. I looked at the new swarovisions, slc hd, slc wb, and el wb. All GREAT glass. I chose the el wb for one because they were 1300 cheaper than the el sv and there wasn't enough optical difference (to me) to justify the extra cash. On top of being a bit cheaper, the el wb are an ounce lighter! Very happy with my purchase.
