The Best AR15 caliber

What is the best AR15 caliber or what do you own?  I have the 5.56, but think I want another upper.

My vote goes to the 6.8SPC.  Another good choice is the 6.5 Grendel.  For choices smaller than .224, the .204 Ruger is a good varmint caliber.  Brass for all the non-.223 calibers is pricey, and the AR kicks the hulls out all over.

I would have to go with the 223  but would really like to have one in a big game hunting cal.

You can?  That would be nice, mine eject forward of the firing line and are hard to retrieve.

Yeah, I've got a shell catcher.  Works good at the bench, but makes an AR even more gagety to carry in the field.  One solution is to build an upper in .20 Tactical:  .223 brass necked down to .20.  Almost as potent as a .204 Ruger, and brass is cheap.  Not a readily available upper, though--at least not yet.

You (gunsmith) can lighten the extractor to where it falls right next to you, My neighbor did it to his so he doesn't shower the guy next to him at the range.

Ive got a 5.56. I no boring but its what they had. Just bought a dpms flattop .223 upper for it . I know its basicly the same thing i had ,only the 5.56 wasnt a flattop. Thought about a 6.8 or .204 but the funding wasnt there.

My AR is a .308 and I like although I haven't shot it much, my other choice would be the 6.8

Might want to look at the 6.5 Grendel.  I read that it's quite nice.  I'm still using a 223 though.  Would like to add a 204, and an ar10 in 308.

Any calibre other than 5.56mm is only built on an AR frame.

The AR-15 was developed as a lighter, 5.56 mm version of the AR-10

I thought it was the other way around.  Didn't see AR-10s until a few years ago, but the AR-15 has been around for more than 50 years.

The 6.8 is the newest member of my AR family, I built it with the plan in mind to replace my Ar-10 during Deer season as well as for Coyotes.  I just like the lighter smaller Ar-15 platform better than the 10.  I have Ar's in 204,223,308 & 6.8 , but If I was adding a new upper & I already had a 223 I would jump up to the 6.8 just for the increased bullet weight & ability to carry force down range to 500 ish.  The 20 tac & the 204 are distance shooter but if you don't get the pump station you might be loosing a dog.

I absolutely LOVE my 25 WSSM!  Antelope hate it though.  Mike Milli at Dedicated Technologies built mine and will do my next one as well. 

Looking at one in 17 Remington, or one in 20 Practical.  I like the 20 Practical better than the 20 Tactical as the brass is a lot easier to make...one step up, no annealing, and no shoulder change so there's no fireforming.  Plus the guy that invented it lives in Vancouver.

I've got a 6.5 Grendel upper that I haven't had a chance to wring out yet, due to the weather.

My wife wants a 25 wssm in carbon fiber wrapped/tensioned so it won't be as heavy to carry.
