Nice gun. Not sure going from a T/C is a "Step Up" though. 'Depends' on both guns. I have had both. Like both.
Have seen guys throw a number of shots at a 'questionable' shot they should not have taken in the first place. A single shot anything will usually cure you of that. Most people I have met shooting a single shot are better shots as they have to make the first one count, and know where it will hit the first time. Single shots are fun.
Cuterebra are NOT cute!

You guys are getting me excited now.
As far as shooting a single shot goes: Hell, I never even work the bolt on my bolt guns when I shoot. Even when I  finally do , I put my other hand over the action to catch the shell so it doesn't hit the ground.
They're a great lookin gun but I was concerned about their accuracy. I like sub MOA groups. Some guns just won't do it even with the best hand loads. That was my main concern.
Are any of you guys handloading for your #1s and really working on tight shootin loads?

Dont let anyone tell you that you cant get it done with a single shot. You will become a better shot!!

Yep I would have passed on that one too...butt ugly.  :chuckle:

I have 2 Encores and my dad has a #1 and a Contender. I agree functionality wise I think it's a toss up. I think the #1's are "prettier" rifles. My Encores are shooters for sure, especially with a little tweeking.

She's a beauty. I don't see a recoil pad on that thing? Muzzle brake? Can't really tell by the pic.

That is a nice looking #1. Just out of the box might be a stretch though as that rifle may have had some work done to it and you might not even know. They quit making "red pad" #1's years back. You'll typically pay more for a red pad as they are sometimes more desirable to a collector. Any "new" out of the box #1 won't come with a red butt pad.

I have a funny story regarding a #1, a charging black bear and a guy wishing that #1 wasn't a single shot.
You can gifure the rest of the story out. Apparently it's difficult to get another boolit in the hole when there's a bear wanting to kick the krap out of you.

That's why I carry my revolver when I hunt with mine.  Believe it or not, you can jack another shell in pretty fast when you have  to.
