700 Remington Trigger

I bought a 700 Remington in 204 and hate the trigger.  Needs to be lightened up a bunch. I have been spoiled by the Accutrigger and want the same pull in the Remington.  Anyone near the Tri Cities that fixes them?  Or would an aftermarket trigger be a better option?

How old is the rifle? Remington changed the triggers in about 2000 and then again a year ago or so, each trigger adjust differently.
I have links to directions on my other computer for the old style 700 trigger and the x-mark pro that are easy to do yourself but I havent messed with the newest generation of 700 triggers.

There are three screws one behind is the trigger engagement then two in front top one is overall travel bottom one is trigger pull.
Your going to want to read up on it a little before you go turning screws

I believe that all the rem 700 triggers follow the same basic concept as to were these set screws are located   please correct me if im wrong

I dont know about being spoiled by the accutrigger

Thats a diagram of one of the new triggers, the older X-marks and the walker design both have the weight adjustment screw o0n the front of the trigger.

For $129.00 you can buy a drop in Timney trigger and it takes 10 minutes to replace. No liability with adjusting it yourself and be confident that is is safe. Those remmy triggers can be tempermental. If you do adjust yourself, test thoroughly and lock the screws in. Lots of people use red fingernail polish to lock and seal the screws.

I adjusted mine myself and had two completely different instructions on the same trigger so I wasn't confident in which one was the best and safest way to do it even though both ways felt good. I didn't have any accidental discharges but after further reading online with people having issues I decided to just buy the Timney trigger. I haven't shot it yet but I feel much more comfortable with it.

The Timney safety blocks the trigger so when you flip the safety off it cant accidentally fire. The Remington blocks the sear so if the trigger is not adjusted correctly the gun can fire when you flip the safety off. So I have read and understand. I am sure others on hear know much more and can correct me if I am wrong.

I adjusted the trigger pull down from it's stock setting of 5.25 lbs to 3 lbs.  I really like it now.  Mine must be an older model than the picture because the pull adjustment screw is facing foward.  Shot it some this afternoon and my groups really improved a lot.  Still figuring out what load it likes but getting it narrowed down.  My Savage Accutrigger was set at 3 lbs from the factory.

I have one gun with a Jewell trigger set at 2.5lbs and another with the x mark that I adjusted down to 2.5lbs. Both of them shoot great.
