2006 Kitsap co. Blackie GIANT NT
« on: March 02, 2011, 09:23:46 AM »
My good friends newer girlfriend's brother had a wine tasting...I mean drinking party. First time Id ever been to his house and we got to talking about fishing then hunting came up. He asked if I wanted to see his 2006 Black tail mount. Sure I said!
I had no idea what I was about to see. It was scored twice I guess and there is a difference in the scores, that and he had no paperwork from either. So we want to get this to Bow4elk sometime soon to get it scored again. Though y'all might like a peek at it. It is the biggest Blackie I have ever seen!

There were 2 others taken in the same general area which resembled this beast. Both scored well but this one flat out beats the crap out of them. There is a pic in the Long Lake store of one of the beasts. Likely all the same genetics.

Anyway, love to hear some guesses before we get it down to Tom, if he's up for it. Sorry for the cell pics but its all I had when I went last night to his fish fry. the 2 scores he remembers were 180ish and some change and at the sportsman show in the 172 class...but he was kinda shooting from the hip as its been awhile.

I know right were it was shot. And I live right by the Long Lake store and 2 of the bucks used to cross the road into the parking lot. Both were taken by bow. As was this guy during modern season. He only came out at night till his neck got swollen. This bad boy lived right up the hill a bit...
I have no idea on scoring so I cant even judge...

 :yeah:

I agree- I don't see 180's.  Way bigger than anything I've ever shot, but I'd guess 140's Gross tops  :dunno:.  Really nice one of a kind buck though.

Great buck, saw him on the hoof a few times. And if your friend is who I think it is, he's a good guy. Great buck for sure.

As far as nice blackie bucks go. We also have a place here called McCormic Woods. There are soon GREAT BIG blackies there.I'll post some photos when I find them. There is a 6x7 ast year that was the size of a muley. Some of the deer there are hand feed grain and apples. I know of One deer that is on a feeding schedule.  :chuckle:

At first glance I agree with those who guessed in the 140s. What could be deceiving is all the junk at the bases. All that junk adds up pretty quick. Maybe 150s?? :dunno:
Also, I didn't think you were supposed to 'shop around' for a score. I know you can have your buddies or yourself score it all you want, but, like at the sportsmans show, those guys are official aren't they? I thought you were only supposed to have one official score.
Oh yea, awesome blacktail. Blacktail of a lifetime for sure.

Not shoping around at all. I suspect the first score was done by a friend. But I don't know? If it did get scored at the show Id imagine he would have got a score sheet? But I don't know...
I'm egging him on for an official score with sheet and see were it qualifies in the books if at all. Thats all...

There are some hog burban blackies running around the Pierce/Kitsap areas. This stud was between Pierce and Kitsap ;) Wish I would have taken advantage of archery hunting when this guy was hanging around. That is an awesome mount your buddy has! I'm no scorer, I actually frown on a lot of picture scoring more from the arguments it can cause, but for kicks anyone want to guess what numbers this guy would have grossed? I think he has about 20 inches just in his eyeguards.
