BF - There's a ton of public land in NE Wa and the birds are not hard to find. As you drive back and forth to wherever you're staying, you will see a ton of birds. It costs nothing to stop, introduce yourself and ask if there might be a possibility to harvest a bird or two. If granted permission, be sure to get a "thank you" gift for the landowner whether you're successful or not (I find they like salmon, trout, elk, deer, moose, etc that they usually don't get themselves, but you can also get them their favorite jug, a gift cetificate for a dinner or any store, etc). I find that if you ask ten landowners, you will find at least three that will let you hunt. That said, get away from the main roads where eeveryone has been asked a million times ... they either have people already hunting there or don't allow it.
By the by ... two good friends will be doing a clinic at Cabelas on April 2nd and usually also do one at the Outdoor Emporium in Saettle. Good luck ...
