Spring or Fall?
« on: March 04, 2011, 05:24:53 PM »
If I ever shoot a bear (I don't think I will ever mount or rug one)----------Which would be the best to eat?

I am tempted to put in for spring, but think with "hibernation" all winter they would not be that tasty to eat. Any comments would be appreciated

We never noticed a bad taste with spring bears taken at our cabin in Ontario.  I might be more concerned about bears that had been eating rotten salmon no matter the time of year.

Spring is generally best for taste. Fall is good if they are up way high and eating berries

Bear meats great!  Especially the high country, berry eating bears from fall.

I always have my bears made into summer sausage. I think that when you have that done, they could make sawdust taste good. ;)
