« on: March 04, 2011, 06:04:05 PM »
Just curious when the deer start giving birth to fawns? Didn't get out much this year n predator hunt so was thinking about the birthing season n use a fawn n distress.

The sound is pretty close to the Cottontail Distress sound.  Has to be, because when I blow the Cottontail Distress, the deer come running!  And I know that deer don't eat rabbits.
If it was easy, everybody would be doing it.

When Bernie Madoff did it, it's called a "Ponzi Scheme"
When Government does it, it's called "Social Security"

Yeah, me too! Last year me & FC were calling this little field and using jack & cottontail distress and this doe and fawn came out and were totally checking out the call & decoy. Then about a half hour later a spike came out to see what was going on!

But I dont use fawn distress much for yotes and have never had any success calling one in with it. Much better with pup or rabbit distress. I use both mouth & electronic calls. I think it is slightly more drawn out & longer than rabbit distress since the deer have bigger lung capacity.

if the fawn doesnt work go with a pup distress, or pup whines. Right now that should be the go to call anyway. Or you might try some female barks, whimpers, howls, but when you get into coyote vocalizations it can be a bit more tricky. You dont want to say something that will offend them and run them off!  :chuckle: Rabbit distress may work even if there are none in the area, they may come in out of curiousity or a nostalgic hunger for some bunny nuggets!  :P Pretty soon I think they will be hunting more since they have pups and later in the year bringing the young'ns out for their 1st hunt - isnt that right guys?
