SW WA - 08 Bear season
«
on:
May 17, 2008, 10:19:40 AM »
Hey there, this is my first post on this board.
Thanks for having me....
I am getting geared up and ready for this upcoming bear season, I am new to the SW WA Hunting scene as I moved from up north near Bellingham where I would yearly get my one or two bears.
Does anyone have any general areas that they know produce quality bears in the Battle Ground, Vancouver or Kelso area>?
Thanks in advance for any info~!

Welcome to the site. I live up north and could tell ya some areas, but there are guys here who could give you a better idea than what I could. Enjoy the site, you'll find some good info here and meet some really good folks here too. Good Luck on your hunts and post some pics and stories when you can.

Lots of bears around that area, Silver Star Mt. has a good population as well, but be prepared to work for them.

Cougar rock is about 10 miles north of 3 Corner Rock. It is also a good area and easier to get to via forest roads.

Muleymadness-you're right about the Green Trails map, but also the DNR quadrangles are useful if you're hunt'in public land. When I moved to WA in 2003, I spent a lot of time between Arlington & Darrington & paid my dues. I finally discovered the DNR printing office. I've learned the game the locals play up here. There is usually an access road to DNR land & the locals put "no tresspassing" signs on both sides of the access road on their property. If you don't have a DNR map showing which section, in color, is state land then their bluff works. W/a map you can beat them at their game. I have even found DNR access roads w/old travel trailers drug over the road to block it (but their quad tracks indicate they think its their private hunt'in preserve). DNR maps don't show relief, but it shows where the public land & access roads are. 360-586-6360, DNR printing office in Oly, ask for Lisa Marie.
