Anyone putting in for Wyoming buffalo?
« on: February 25, 2011, 06:49:20 AM »
Anyone putting in for Wy buffalo? Only a couple days left to apply. I am thinking of putting in for it but the $2000+ tag is expensive. I guess you can always not take the tag if they offer one to you.

If you have ever applied what was your highest number on the list? Did you get a tag?

It sounds like a fun hunt. I decided to put in. It was only $20.

How do the numbers work? I'm not following the numbers that you are talking about...

The names go into a pot and then when the drawing takes place you get a number assigned to you, number 1 being the best number.  Then WY fish and wildlife will decide how many buffalo they want harvested and sends out permits to the people with the lowest number. It seems like a typical number if bull tags given out is about 100 or so to resident hunters and about 20 to non resident hunters. If they offer you a tag and you want it then you need to pay the $2500+ tag fee. The number of bull tags changes every year. It can even be 0 tags if they wanted/ needed to.

I put in for the tag. First year. So we will see how it goes, but I think it would be a fun hunt for sure.
