Shooting off your riser
« on: March 06, 2011, 05:10:59 PM »
Anyone here shoot of their riser? I have a mathews monster and have struggled with the grip not feeling right. I finally took the grip off  the other day and and intended to buy a focus grip but before I head down to the archery shop I shot it a few times in the garage. My groups were more consistant then with the stock grip, and the bow felt really stable. I am a huge fan now of a thin, square grip and have been shooting off the riser for a few days now. The only thing I don't like is the feel of the metal, but I am not sure if wrapping tap around it is a good idea? I've been re-searching side plates as an option as well. Anyone have any advice?

Leather, seal, teflon, electrical tape, duct tape.......They all seem to work.

That adhesive backed camo mole skin works great,it's super quiet. But you have to replace it more often than other materials.
It is also easier to use,so it balances out in my opinion.

adhesive back velcro (soft side) is also an idea.  About the same heighth as the moleskin.

Thanks for all the great ideas, keep them coming. Would you guys just suggest taping vertically down the riser or tape around the riser?

Excellent suggestion, much more durable you would think, I'll have to try that. Thanks

Hockey tape

 :iamwithstupid:

all my bows get the hockey tape treatment on the grip as well as the shelf before they get a rest or sight.

Most bow grips are overbuilt and cause you too torque the bow... you are on the right track!!!
