Nosler E-Tip Bullets
« on: March 07, 2011, 11:29:06 AM »
I just got an email reply from Nosler this morning concerning the .270 85gr E-Tip bullet. They said it wouldn't be available untill mid summer. I thought it'd make a hell of a coyote bullet. Maybe even good for antelope.

Are we talking the same etip? The etip is a lot like the barnes ttsx. It is a bullet for the bigget of big game. 99% weight retention. I would use a way lesser bullet for a yote, like the there CT bullets. They would be just fine for yotes, but a little more spendy and way over kill is my :twocents: I just bought and loaded some 180's for my 300wm. They have a great BC as well.

No, I just loaded them up the other day and have not shot them yet. Noslers web site does not give any info on speeds yet. I am sure they will update it, by adding the etips to there manuals, and website load data. So no idea on speeds yet.

I would also love to see the xp3, become available to the public to load  But I don't think they ever will :'( I have made more then a few calls 8)

Curious sako, as to what you plan on shooting with an 85 grainer out of a .270.  Yotes?  Seems like an awful small grainer for that type of bullet and caliber.  Just curious.

Not sure what a CT bullet is Carpsniper. As far as big game goes, everything - deer/antelope and up is big game to me. I've learned my lesson too many times with lesser bullets in the old days. 1992 was the start of my Super Premium bullet career. Never looked back. Trophy Bonded Bear Claws, Swift A-Frames & Scirocco II, Jensen J-26 and J-36(no longer made). I shot some of the first Barnes X bullets made. They shot terrible and broke off their mushroom petals every time. Barnes switched copper bar stock to de-oxygenated copper(no more microscopic air pockets) and they started retaining their petals. They fouled barrels terribly when they first came out too but now they're a pretty good bullet. There are more and more super premium bullets available every day these days.

MtnMuley, My opening post states that I was thinking of loading it for coyotes. It ought to be fast, flat and kill quickly. Barnes makes a TTSX in 95gr that might be cool to shoot to.

The CT stands for: Combined Technology bullets, they are made by Nosler. Its a bullet that Nosler and winchester teamed up to make. Hints the name. They are a great bullet for yote and deer/lope sized game. They have a varmint model and a regular hunting model. Check them out. Very high BC, they make a 130 and 150 in the .277dia

They own the bullet, but I am not sure they make them. They might, you can't buy just the bullets. They only sell them in there elite "loaded ammo" series.

Yeah. Just found them on Winchester's site. I wasn't looking at ammunition. It looks like it's only available loaded.
Their first try with that style bullet(Fail Safe) had the same results as the early Barnes X. Broke off all the petals most of the time. The XP3 must be their fix to that problem.

Yeah, the xp3 is a great bullet. I have been around a few animal shot with them, and like there performance. I know of a few guys that buy loaded ammo, and just pull the bullets :yike: To reuse them in there own loads. They get the brass to :chuckle: But very spendy to do :chuckle: :o

I contacted Nosler a week or so ago asking for the XP3, and the Accubond with lubalox coating.

Their response was..XP3 is only available in Win Supreme ammo and Accubond with lubalox coating only
available on loaded Winchester ammo.
