Nightforce scopes
« on: March 07, 2011, 07:22:05 PM »
I would really like to upgrade a few scopes and nightforce would be my choice if I could afford them. Anyone know the cheapest place to find them? Thanks

You must have got your income tax return. While Nightforce scopes are nice on a bench rifle, I think their way to big and heavy for a hunting rifle.
They re about the same price everywhere...........expensive.

BTW
I have a older 12-42x56 with the np-r-12 reticle, the clearest scope I've ever looked through.
That scope rides on my 6.5-300wby that weighs 25lb's loaded and ready to go.

If you must stick with NF, check out their new G7, specifically designed for hunting.  I don't like the way the new G7 evolved, and will continue to buy the Huskemaw. :twocents:

They are very nice scopes. But I have shot them side by side with my Leupold vx3lr, and there is not much difference IMHO. Other then about 700-1200 more $'s. I would check out a few of the major places like midway/graff and sons/Natchez shooters supply/ who ever might carry them and wait for them to go on sale if you must have a night force.

While I don't normally chime in on hardware postings, this one caught my eye. I can tell you from practical experience and having met with the owner and developer of these optics they are well worth the money. These scopes have been utilized in real world applications for hunting and with special operations and were not thought to be to heavy. Even when pounding the ground for miles in nasty weather they performed perfectly and the few extra ounces were are not significant when weighed against their performance. I would not consider these scopes to be for bench shooting only.  Something to remember is with this scope and some practice with the loads you intend to use, one should not have to cary a range finder thus reducing your weight load by more than the extra heft of the scope. That being said they are a hefty investmet if you only plan on using them once or twice a year.
