06 dodge, 6 speed, s&b intake, exhaust and superchips programmer.  get 14 mpg pulling 19,000 lbs, and plenty of power.  no complaints, except the darn price of diesel!

No kidding! At $150 to fill a tank about anything aftermarket you can afford to increase MPG's is worth it. When I bought my truck new in 07 I remember paying $1.60/gallon then it was all uphill from there.

I get 12 at 26000GVW over the pass stock and 13 up and down the I 5 corridor... And yes diesel is too damn expensive!
That's actually not that bad at that weight and stock programming.
At 22-23k, I get just under 15.  But I don't exactly have anything resembling stock under the hood.  I was under 12 at my lesser GVW.  But this is also with a slide in camper plowing the air too.
I'll never re-coup the cost of what I have done in fuel savings, but I didn't do it for that purpose either.
I did see about a 1.5 mpg gain when the truck was still stock and before I through a bunch of money at it.

Yeah, I just swipe the card, squeeze the handle and look the other way it hurts so bad to fill it up.

The only reason i did the upgrades was for fuel savings. And i like the extra power while towing the 11000 lb.  5th wheel.
I got 12.5-13 over white pass when stock. Then 2 weeks ago i got 9.5-10 towing to the coast.
Also i was taking the truck to the shop for O2 sensors. Well those are gone now. And i am looking at better fuel mileage.

Wind resistance plays a huge role in my milage. On the truck stock i get 16-18 over the pass with as much weight as i can and keep it below the cab. I get 17-18+ on the I5 corridor

Have a 06 Dodge 2500 quad cab short box with a leveling kit and 35 inch toyos. And 6 speed tranny. Installed a AFE stage II intake and a Hypertech programmer. Get 20 around town and about 22 to 24 on freeway. Next on the list is exhaust and gauges. Does anybody run synthetic oil in their diesels? And how many guys have exhaust brakes and aftermarket clutches on their diesels?

No on the synthetic for me.  I prefer good old fashioned dinosaur oil.  Delo 400 is tough to beat or splurge and use Valvoline Premium Blue.  I use the Valvoline PB in my '05 but use the 400 in the Mrs' '07 5.9.  Her's is just a pavement princess and doesn't do much heavy work because it's an auto.  :chuckle:
Yes on the exhaust brake.  PacBrake PRXB.  Hands down the best $ I spent!!!
After market clutch, yes.  South Bend Clutch disk with their upgraded hydraulics.  Blew my stock disk out at 35k.  62k on that clutch now and still going strong.

So why an exhaust upgrade?
If you tow, you might hate it.  You will develop a harmonic note in your exhaust that just loves the 67-74 mph range in 6th.  If you do, don't delete the resonator in front of the muffler.  That's what's keeping the noise out of the cab.
I would give anything to have my OE exhaust back on my '05.  Worst $ I spent right here.

I have the stock exhaust brake in my 08 and i love it. I don't have any drone @ 65-75. I have it @ 2200 RPM at about 30-35 MPH comming up the hill to my house.
I run Delo 400 in mine.

I also have the 6 speed auto.

I have the turbo back 4" exhaust. And i was amazed that the muffler was not really a muffler. Just a fatter piece of straight pipe that looks like a muffler to anybody looking under the truck.

The duramax is my first diesel, and I love it.  If my truck had wings I'm pretty certain it could fly, and when I pull up to the coffee hut I don't have to shut my engine off to talk to the servers.

Cummins, with a 6 speed.

06  5.6 cummins w/ 6 speed and Jake Brake.  Plenty of towing power and decent fuel mileage.
