Yup, what twist said too about performance add on's.  Banks, you pay a bit extra for Gayle's name on the box.
If you prefer to keep your money relatively local vs going with TS Performance, there are quite a few local and relatively local very knowledgeable distributors and installers out there too.
Dynomite in Monroe.
DKDiesel in Bellingham.
DJ's Diesel in Moses Lake - A very smart PSD guy!!!
Alligator Performance in Post Falls, ID.
Just to name a few.

If only EFI Live for PSD's was available.

does anyone have or have had a cummins with the 53 block, and did it crack?

My brother has one, he has a new block on the way that we are going to put in this winter. It had about 130,000 miles.

You got a cracked one or know of someone who does?
If so, here's the fix.
http://www.locknstitch.com/cummins_5_9_block.htm
Many in the drag racing and sled pulling world do this to their 53's before they let go.

This is only a temporary fix at best. It won't last long.

I have a 03 Ford Powerstroker....

I am pretty happy with it, but I know guys with those older Cummins and a manual tranny who are getting over 20 mpg, you just can't argue with that kind of mileage. So I voted cummins for the mileage....

I've got a `03 Dodge 2500, and added the SmartyJr. Gains up to 100 extra HP and fuel economy went up 4+ mpg. (Smarty is only available for the Cummins, sorry Power stroke and Duramax guys) This is a plug and play re-programmer. I am wanting to upgrade to their SmartyS-06 PoD, now that I have my tranny re-built to withstand all the extra torque and HP (an additional 170HP).

Sixtynhalf   Did you do the lift pump upgrade and put it in the tank?  On the 03 many had an exterior lift pump that when it goes out puts strain on your injector pump and normally causes it to fail. That normally happens on a long drive where the lift pump provides enough initial pressure to start then fails. The injector pump is still able to draw fuel from the tank however it creates lots of stress on the pump... Most aftermarket pumps are not in the tank... Not sure why.... Many lift pumps fail from dry suction when prime is lost for whatever reason. I put a factory in tank pump kit in that dropps in. the in tanks don't lose prime and always stay lubed. it is also the design that they use int the 04-06? lift pumps are cheep $200. common rail injection pumps are not $2-3k   When my lift pump whent out i lucked out it was a short trip, 5 miles, and it failed during that trip. Normally i run my truck for 200+ miles without shutting it off...

Our 06 Cummins with a 9.6 Northern Lite and gear for fishing, kayaking, and ability to stay out for a month or longer gets about 14 mpg, without the camper we were getting 17-19. Now mind you we only have 28,000+ miles on the truck, so it still has to break in.

Air resistance playes a huge part in fuel efficiency... just like sisu i have had long trips that get 18-20mpg with my 03 speed stick when the load is below the cab, and the mpg has dropped to 15 when above the cab with the same payload.  :twocents:  once going 60mph air resistance is the main force to overcome...

What's your mileage sixty4nhalf?

I drove to San Diego (not towing) and I kept it at the speed limit and I was pulling an average of 24.8 mpg, I only filled up 2 times (so 3 tanks of fuel (I believe). Now around town I am only gettin about 18.6 mpg, as long as I keep my foot out of it.  :chuckle:

Bearpaw do you know if you have the 6.0L or the 7.3L in your rig. I would guess you have the 7.3 since you have been happy with it.

IMO..... cummins motor, the interior and ride of the chevy and the looks of a ford.

Ford screwed up by getting rid of the 7.3. Loved that motor for years!!! But my duramax now I can't complain about anything but fuel mileage. 13 mpg city and 15 hwy. Not good!
