Love my PSD but the right bread of Cummins would be fine too.

Stock a newer cummins is hard to beat with a 6 speed stick. I've had 3 with that tranny 2 with the 12 vavles 5 spped and one auto that was a pos. I do a lot of towing and they are hard to beat for power and economy.

no durtymax for me.

Dream truck,

Ford body, Cummins engine, and Allison transmission. no dodge transmissions. they suck

You must mean the Dodge transmissions suck less than the Allison.

The 48RE in the Dodge actually had fewer TSBs and recalls than the Allison that everyone thinks is so great. So based purely on fact and not opinion, the 48RE was the better tranny.

The Allison 1000 in the GM trucks is NOT the transmission that gave Allison their reputation.

I had an Allison,it was a decent tranny, but nothing spectacular.

You can smoke a lot of center force clutches for the price of one juice box!

Just forget the Allison, 48re, ZF, NP435, NV4500 and get yourself a Lenco.  :chuckle:  If I only had the money.

I'm pretty sure the Cummins has proved itself for the longest.

Wouldn't trade my late '04 Cummins w/6 speed for a new one.
It never changes, but it is always different.

I think any 24V Cummins pre 2006 is still a great motor and better power than the old 12V.  My 48RE tranny has been just fine towing up to 12-14K, have it serviced every 30,000 and it keeps on ticking just fine.
I didn't say it was your fault, I said I was blaming you.
If I ageed with you, then we'd both be wrong.

Ford Crew Cab Short box box with Cummins motor.

I agree with the below..  I had an Allison in my '04 Duramax and didn't love it.  I think if I had to pick any factory tranny it would be the Dodge 6-speed manual.

[The Allison 1000 in the GM trucks is NOT the transmission that gave Allison their reputation.

That's right because the Center Force clutch can't handle the torque from a diesel engine in stock form let alone Edge'd.
Do it right the first time and throw a South Bend clutch in it.
