Smith & Wesson 22a
« on: March 07, 2011, 08:21:26 AM »
Stopped by the local shop yesterday to pick up some cleaning supplies and noticed they carried the S&W 22a. I've been eyeing 22lr pistols for a while now and the $225 price-tag seemed pretty interesting

Does anyone here own one, has shot one, or has any thoughts on them? Online reviews seem OK, but its always better to hear it from people you trust

I've had mine for around 6 years now I think.  Never had a problem with it.  I've shot a bunch of 22 pistols and the 22a is my favorite.  I don't shoot it alot but it's probably had at least a thousand rounds thru it.

I'm guessing I've had mine for 12 yrs now.  Probably about 1000 rnds through it as well, no problems.  Surprisingly accurate too!  I wouldn't hesitate to buy another.  What I liked about it was the rail on top, I could add a scope, without removing or changing the open sights, and take it off, and still hold a zero on both scope and open sights.  I carry mine without a scope, or when driving around, will carry it with the scope on it.  If I was planning on not using optics on it, I'd get a ruger or Browning buckmark, they just seem more durable.

Thanks guys,

I hadn't heard much on it, so it was nice to actually hear from some folks who put it through its paces and get some honest input.  Went out yesterday and tested it and a ruger 22/45, which definitely had a more solid feeling to it. Both seemed to be great guns. The dealer had a smokin deal on the ruger, so I caved and picked it up

Dang, was hoping you would pick up the S&W so I could get a field report.  Have two buddies with mosquitos and they aren't big fans.  So I was looking at these.  Looky what I found......
